Let me say I am NOT a ICU nurse. But I have worked the last couple of Halloweens and I am starting to notice a trend. IT gets CRAZY in ICU "Code this in ICU, code that in ICU, stat page to supervisor, stat page to respiratory, stat page Dr. So and So, stat page to Dr. Such and Such" it went on and on all evening. Most of these departments have beepers but in a really bad emergency the ICU nurses will bypass them and stat page because they get quicker results. I turned to the nurse working with me and said, "wasn't it real bad like that last Halloween also". She said, "last Halloween and the Halloween before that and the one before that and for every Halloween I can remember". I said jokingly, "They should have and exorcism in ICU on Oct.30th next year". My friend told me that none of the evening crew got out of there till 2am.
