Got called out to playground for a student that could not walk. Student is Academy worthy drama momma, sent home a few times for award winning performances and mom gets it (thankfully). She had a teacher and I support her for the 600 foot walk to the school and into my office. She wailed with each step. Ice applied, would not allow me to assess ROM. Left her with leg up and ice. She got bored after 5 minutes and walked unassisted back to class after I told her mom wasn't picking her up early. Win!

Boredom is my friend!
I used to have students ask "Can't you print me out something to color?"
Nope, if you are able to color you can be in class!

My rule of thumb when I was a school nurse was that if you're well enough to be bored, you're probably well enough to go back to class.

Hmmm.... maybe this is one of the perfect moments to see or investigate further if this student is being bullied at school or perhaps something else is up!?

I'm sure he has.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
That's valid, but I am attuned to that. She is a first grader and I work in an alternative learning environment, the littles are frequently in my office area and I am able to observe. She likes the attention it affords her.
