The Trump Thread

Published

I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can.  My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.

He's not going away.

Haberman's book is out based on interviews.  I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting.  Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with.  LOL

Quote

“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

This is what conservatives are going to vote for because they are too angry about Biden's win in 2020 to pay attention to what Trump is planning.

This is why it's important to avoid being distracted by the trump circus. We have a fatal tendency to demonize one person or group and assume our problem is solved by eliminating that one person/group. The trump show is a symptom of the ongoing right-wing attempt at the ultimate regulatory capture.

A U.S. appeals court on Friday ruled that Donald Trump must face civil lawsuits over his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol by his supporters, rejecting the former president's claim that he is immune.

A panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit found that Trump was acting "in his personal capacity as a presidential candidate" when he urged his supporters to march to the Capitol on the day of the riot. U.S. presidents are immune from civil lawsuits only for official actions.

The ruling clears the way for Trump to face lawsuits from U.S. Capitol police officers and Democratic lawmakers seeking to hold Trump responsible for the violence by his supporters during the riot, which was an attempt to overturn his 2020 election defeat.

Quote

The unanimous decision focused only on whether Trump could be sued, and said nothing about the merits of the cases themselves.

Trump argued that his speech exhorting his followers to "fight like hell" against the certification of the election was related to a "matter of public concern" and fell within his official responsibilities.

A Trump spokesperson on Friday called the ruling "limited, narrow and procedural" and said Trump was "acting on behalf of the American people" on the day of the attack.

Hahaha

Trump says that encouraging his followers to march on the Capitol to STOP THE STEAL was part of the official duties of the POTUS on January 6th, 2021.

Special counsel goes directly to Supreme Court to resolve whether Trump has immunity from prosecution

Quote

CNN —

Special counsel Jack Smith on Monday asked the Supreme Court to decide whether Donald Trump has any immunity from criminal prosecution for alleged crimes he committed while in office – the first time that the high court will weigh in on the historic prosecution of the former president.

The extraordinary request is an attempt by Smith to keep the election subversion trial – currently scheduled for early March – on track. Smith is asking the Supreme Court to take the rare step of skipping a federal appeals court and quickly decide a fundamental issue of the case against Trump.

Quote

The special counsel's team is pointing to a similar maneuver employed in US v. Nixon, the 1974 Supreme Court case in which the justices rejected then-President Richard Nixon's claims of presidential privilege in a subpoena fight over Oval Office tapes. In that case, the high court moved quickly to resolve the matter so that one of the Watergate-era cases could proceed swiftly.

And they will likely sell briskly.

What's interesting is that he says:  "Like the first round of card sales, the current offer claims the cards are "not political and have nothing to do with any political campaign.”

So it's not a fundraiser but a business venture to make himself money.

"Trump said the 2022 digital card offer sold out within hours. He later reported earning between $100,001 and $1 million in income from the sale. He released another series of 47,000 cards in April."  Which is quite the spread of money.

But can't mock a billionaire for trying to make a buck.  It's the American way.  Props for making fun of himself and the situation with the "mugshot edition".

Trump's notoriety makes it likely that these things will have at least some value in the future.  This reality will attract actual investors.  Dependent upon the outcome of the NY Civil case, Trump could experience some real cash flow issues.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/binder-with-top-secret-russia-intelligence-missing-since-end-trump-term-source-2023-12-15/

A binder holding top-secret intelligence that contributed to a U.S. assessment that Russia tried to help throw the 2016 U.S. election to Donald Trump has been missing since the last days of his presidency, a source familiar with the issue said.

The Russia intelligence was included with other documents in a binder that Trump directed the CIA to send to the White House just before he left office so he could declassify materials related to the FBI probe of Russian interference in the 2016 vote, the source said.

Trump specifically requested to have the binder sent to the WH. Trump ordered the selective declassification of the documents for publication to the general public.  The original top secret binder goes missing in the Trump chaos, still undercovered.

Quote

The Russia materials included highly classified raw intelligence gathered by the U.S. and NATO allies, fueling fears that the methods used to collect the information could be compromised, the source added.

Meadows was actively engaged with this declassification and that binder as late as January 19. Meadows promised that it would be returned.

Another career destroyed but association with Donald Trump.  Another very specific example of Trump's chaotic and corrupt style of "leadership" that should disqualify him from holding any public office. Trump's presidency was a collision of incompetence and corruption.  We can't afford to go back down that path.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence because this would imply that he's read a book.

Senator Graham told republican viewers that he didn't care about those type of words.  That gives all republican voters permission to not care. Moms for Liberty are already there, they quoted Hitler earlier this year.  We've been here before, remember? Richard Spencer led Trump supporters in a "hail Trump" chant that even included an outstretched arm and hand during Trump's first ascension to power.

Donald Trump's mother was from Scotland. His first wife Ivana and third wife Melania were immigrants with 4 of his 5 children first generation Americans.  Think these "immigrants" have contributed to America ....  like many others that have settled here.

Says this 2nd generation immigrant.
