I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can. My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.
He's not going away.
Haberman's book is out based on interviews. I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting. Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with. LOL
Quote“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

Trump rally shooting live updates: FBI identifies suspected shooter
Thomas Matthew Crooks identified as the Trump shooter at Pennsylvania Butler political rally-- 20 YO lived 42 miles from the rally location, registered as Republican in PA voting roles per news reports.
I came to post the identity. My source doesn't mention voter registration.

Records show Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was registered as a Republican voter in Pennsylvania, but federal campaign finance reports also show he gave $15 to a progressive political action committee on Jan. 20, 2021, the day President Joe Biden was sworn in to office.

Quote"For weeks Democrat leaders have been fueling ludicrous hysteria that Donald Trump winning re-election would be the end of democracy in America," said U.S. Representative Steve Scalise, the No. 2 House Republican, who survived a politically motivated shooting in 2017.
From the article above. I understand politicizing it like this as I don't like rhetoric and expected this. Just as I expect some anti-gun rhetoric. (But you have to admit we've become numb to shootings and crazy people having access to guns).
I understand that such talk inflames such people with access to guns. I've often said that violence against gay people has its roots in the preacher pulpits and political podiums, so I get it. Rhetoric fuels the fire of violence.
On the other hand, this is from a man who says "I wouldn't be surprised if President Biden continued this parallel universe. It seems like, you know, he's living in the swamp and he thinks that that's how the rest of the country is. He will not acknowledge that it's his policies that have crushed hardworking families. The lower and middle income families of this nation are getting destroyed by President Biden's policies."
I'm not sure how claiming Trump will be the end of democracy is any more incendiary than saying Biden is destroying families. But I get it, he wants to focus on the Trump assassination attempt. But kind of reminds me of the old expression that when you're pointing your finger out at someone, remember there are a few pointed right back at you.
Maybe we all could tone it down a bit.

everything's a grift.
He doesn't need any photo ops or grift. His followers are giving him all the publicity he needs.
The convention will offer him a "hero's welcome". Although I don't understand how he's a hero. The hero is the follower that died protecting his family.

He's 100% going to use this to a nauseating degree.
However, I think it would be exploited to a nauseating degree if someone tried to assisnate Biden.
It's all nauseating. The man who lost his life is the true hero.

Not just him but his followers and I wasn't offering up a criticism but an observation that it's already happening. Totally agree if it were Biden there'd be exploitation. It's too juicy and too close to the election not to.
