the pennsylvania patient safety authority has hired the first of several liaisons to improve patient safety at hospitals.
the first patient safety liaison is megan shetterly, a registered nurse who had been the patient safety officer at berwick hospital. shetterly will focus on the northeastern part of the state, while the patient safety authority will add similar liaisons in other parts of the state next year, reported the patriot-news. the authority was created in 2002 to reduce medical errors at hospitals and outpatient surgery centers, and has since collected nearly 800,000 reports of medical errors or near-misses. the authority said it decided to hire the liaisons after conversations with hospital officials who wanted it to have a stronger presence at their hospitals, the patriot-news added.
