The Never Ending Preceptor Search

Published

Hello,

I am trying to start my adult clinicals and have not had any luck. I have seen several say to contact your school for assistance; however, the response I get is to check sliding scale clinics and go in person. Needless to say, I am still looking for clinical placement. I am running out of time and ideas. I live in south Atlanta, Georgia. Anyone have any other ideas or worst case scenario know a good pay for placement?

Some things to try if you haven't yet:

1. Ask your program and your faculty for help (most programs have practicing faculty that may take a student).

2. Join your state NP association as a student member (they often have tools for connecting with preceptors).

3. Join the AANP as a student member.

4. Use your professional network contacts from your RN job.

5. Visit some smaller, independent medical offices and ask to speak with the practice manager, bring a resume/CV and a letter regarding your clinical interests.

Go to Nurse Practitioner Associations & Organizations. Locate your state and organization. Copy and paste the organization name into the search engine. You might have to join the organization to access the preceptor directory. Send emails to several (20-30 or more) preceptors or NP. I hope that this helps.
