The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.
If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.
All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.
The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.
To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:
You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.
Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.
If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

That is 750 applicants that are finalist. These are the ones being scored for the awards. I also asked about the credit checks and she said that everyone will get one, some analysts dont have as many as others do so some have already done it and most have not yet. Yes, it does suck about not getting the money until october. BUT better Oct than never! I dont think they will either, with the pell. I talked to financial aid counselor and she said that they will bill them what was already paid (with my pell) and then give the money to me. I would definatly go and talk to someone and let them know what is going on. Im sure they will work with you if you give them a heads up :)
Sqoud, thanks for this wealth of information. Did you happen to discuss with this person anything regarding the credit checks? Do you know if they are only looking for federal defaults, or if written off credits card would count against you?
THanks~
Ahh...I got the same call this morning (from a new analyst...different from the two different ones I received the initial emails from!)! I starting freaking out after I heard the voicemail...I faxed all my stuff the day they requested it!!!! I re-faxed and called to verify that they received it.
Oh man...I REALLY don't want to fall through the cracks on this!
Hum? That is interesting. How come you got all this information when never anyone has known exactly how many applicants they are considering for the award. You must know someone inside that department because otherwise it is very rare that these people give out such sensitive information. Not that I am saying that you are lying, is just that this is the first time someone picks upbthe phone and TALKS! LOL! Anyway, if GPA is been taking into consideration then my prerequisites transcripts are 4.0 but my transfer evaluation form is 3.18. I wonder which one they will use. Guys, what are your GPAs? I want to get an idea. Include prerequisites and overall GPA. Ufffff!!
Asking the 15 people here is not going to give you an idea what the spread is among the 750 applicants.
But, since you asked, 4.0 prereq, 3.4 overall.
Remember the essays and letters of rec count too! Don't give yourself a heart attack over GPAs.
I'm fairly sure they'll count the cumulative because every school's idea of "prereqs" are different. I may have had to take chemistry as a prereq where someone else didn't - HRSA isn't going to know or distinguish that.

She called me today about paperwork. I called her back and asked if she would not mind answering some questions because I had not heard from my analyst. She said she would. I was just as shocked as you were because I have been watching this thread, and everyone said that nobdy answers questions and that nobody seems to know what they are talking about. I have never called anyone there at all, and have never written on this thread, but once she answered my questions and I could tell she knew what she was talking about because she did not have to pause or anything while answering the questions. She actually gave me and exact number that was not 750 it was between 700-800, but like I said I was shocked she answered my question and I did not have a pen to write the exact number down. I asked her how they decided after the initial EFC of 0. Then she broke it down, as I said before. She said it takes so long because they literally read every single essay. 750 something X3. I had a 4.0 going into the nursing program, I have completed 3 of the 5 semesters of my nursing program and now have a 3.84 I am a single mother with 2 kids. and a EFC of 0, but i will not feel confident til I have my letter in hand. I hope and pray I get it, but if I dont I know whoever they choose needed it more than me. :)

I have no idea about that, I should have asked but my mind was spinning and I could not rememeber all the questions I wanted to ask. I believe that they are only looking for federal defaults. Meaning you owe taxes, or something like that. I dont think they care about some cell phone bill, or credit card you did not pay. I would not worry about your credit unless you dont pay ur taxes or child support, or if you were sued by the government for something. BUT that is just my thinking... So, I have no clue..lol
wow really, thats interesting!! I have gone to 3 different colleges in 3 states and always got mine in the middle of october, and the end of feb...wish I went to your school :)
My school web site and academic calender:

Sept 3Balance checks mailed to students Sept 5th, checks mailed to students. I dont know why your schools have done it different. I had my direct deposit by the 30th of Aug last yr... Are your schools all in the same state?

Around 750 makes a lot of sense because there are 5 analysts and each had about 150 finalist or alternates. Don't ask how I know that, I just had way to much time on my hands. LOL! Good luck to you all! After hearing some of your stories my heart goes out to you.:redpinkhe
