I just wanted to let you all know that my son passed away very unexpectedly. We tried every drug possible, nitric oxide, HFOV all to no avail. His last chest x-rays had not one single drop of black (available air space in lungs).

Our son fought for life from the minute that his bio-father caused his massive brain injury. He put up a brave fight with this illness but he had so many complications from his brain injury and nearly a life-time on a vent. As much as we loved and adored him, he is finally free and at peace.

We declined an autopsy but he had Klebsiella pneumonia that appeared to be highly resistant to everything.

I thank you all for your support and comments over the years. Lots of tips/tricks/comforts I learned on here and incorporated so that I ended up being one of the favorite homes in my agency.

I have already started reading other posts and commenting and hope that I can still be of value to nurses in the future. I am going to try and start a program at our hospital for parents of newly trached children. I think that I have a lot of experience and can help other parents acclimate. Years ago, the hospital nurses were awesome but they didn't ever care for a child at home which is a hugely different experience.

I feel very strongly that every child deserves a loving family and hope that at some point in the future we can become family to another trach/vent child.

God, I'm so sorry. I never really knew your story but that also seems incredibly sad. :(

You're such a fixture here. As a new grad who fell into ppd, I have learned *so* much just from reading your posts. Please don't go anywhere. You're an invaluable resource and it made my heart so happy to know that you're spear-heading a program for other parents. Honestly, I'd be happy to have someone as knowledgeable as you training someone like *me*.

May your son finally be at peace.

I'm so sorry. You really did sound the awesomest of all PDN moms and I would have worked for your son in a heartbeat. Know that there is always someone out there thinking of you and I hope your son is finally at rest.

Ventmommy,

I am so very sorry! Your son may have had a rough beginning but he had a very loving end. You have been my favorite homecare Mom and I've never met you. God bless you and comfort you at this time.

Sorry for your loss. He was lucky to have you in his life.

I think its wonderful that you are going to try to start a program at the hospital for other parents. His life will help improve the life and quality of care for other children that way. :)

I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to your son and to you. Together, you and your son, are helping countless nurses and their patients. I believe your experience and wisdom are having a snowball effect in improving the lifes of others. In referring to one of my favorite quotes, success CAN be measured in how many problems you solve for others, I believe your son's life was filled with purpose and huge success. While I feel very sad to hear about

his sudden passing, I find it very comforting to know that he was not denied loving care and that he will continue to improve the lifes of others.
