Textbooks keep/rent?

I'm hoping some seasoned nurses/students can chime in on which texts you are glad you kept and which would be ok to rent. I know I will keep funds, patho, and drug guide.

I abused my books so badly....I'd be afraid to rent them. My books went from my car to my house to my kids games, etcetera. My fear with renting is that I'd damage them.

That being said, after I graduated from LVN school, I only kept my Mosby's Color Dictionary, the lab reference values book and 2 Nursing Diagnosis/NANDA books. Basically, I only kept the reference books.

I bought all my texts except maternity because we had to use them throughout the four years. I would def buy them and keep the main ones. As for when I was done with school, I got rid of all of them. Every floor has had any references I would need.

I'm going into my third semester and I've only kept my Assessment, Funds, and Med/Surg books; and the obvious books such as my diagnosis book and drug guide.

Specializes in Med-Surg/urology.

I graduated last year and I kept 80% of my books. The ones I sold or rented were some of my "minor" courses in my BSN program, like a nursing research class, nursing management, multicultural nursing, and gerontology.

I have never kept any of the textbooks for the fluffy courses like Peds, OB, Research, etc. I usually rented those for cheaper prices. My med surg, NANDA, fundamentals and any of the "pocket guide" type books I do keep.

Rent when you can, its so much cheaper!
