I'm considering getting an iPad because carrying around all of my textbooks is ridiculously heavy. Especially my anatomy and physiology books. I wanted to know if anyone has their textbooks on their iPad. And if you do, do you prefer it over the traditional textbooks that you carry around? Any advice is appreciated :)

Once you get into nursing school, you will be reading hundreds of pages a week. Im not sure if I would want to be doing that on an ipad. I think my eyes would really start to hurt after awhile!

I am currently in nursing school and I opted to have ebooks downloaded to my laptop. I transitioned well to reading ebooks and I find them very user friendly. You can make notes or highlight in your ebooks and I never have to worry about carrying heavy nursing books (trust me nursing books are much heavier than anatomy, physiology, and micro combined). Yes I now prefer them to traditional books.

I got my ipad specifically for nursing school. There is no way I am carrying around those heavy books in that rolling luggage. You can adjust the font and the brightness of the screen on the ipad. Honey we're gonna be alright lol. My eyes are fine and so is my back. I love my textbooks on my ipad. I also bought the notability app and the scanner pro app. I have google drive as well. I scan my study guide competency for the next lecture and load it on my notability app and take notes right on my ipad. I have a bluetooth keyboard. I usually type out my notes, but you can write on the notes as well. The app comes with a palm guard. So, it's easy to write. I have to draw pics in lab sometimes. I love the notability app. My notes are so organized now. You can take notes in outline form, which I love.
I would definitely get a keyboard for your ipad. Make sure your keyboard has a key that allows you to toggle back and forth between apps. The thicker ebooks like my fundamentals book resembles looking at your books on a website. My other books have links that take you directly to a reference that is mentioned and you have a back arrow that takes you right back to where you were. The search feature is awesome and cuts down on a lot of page flippin. The highlight feature is awesome as well. You can change the color of your highlights and label them however your want (homework, study, for exam 1, key words, etc) to get to some specific notes quicker. Just make sure that you look at the tutorial of whichever ebook app you choose to view your ebooks through. I have my ebooks on the vital source app. There are alot of complaints in the reviews about not being able to do certain things. Clearly, they did not look at the tutorial lol. You will love your books on your ipad. If the ipad could have a split screen like the windows tab, OMG! that would be awesome. That's why I say make sure you get a keyboard with a toggle key.
Good Luck in school!
See our teachers wont post their notes online. Its against our school policy, so it wouldn't benefit me too much with the whole note thing. They say if they post their notes online i makes us more apt not to come to class and/or pay attention. I guess Im just old fashioned, I like my books, pencil, and paper. It works for me so I stick to it!

Does anyone have any feedback on the ipad mini vs regular ipad? I'm looking to buy one. Thanks!

Ipad mini is so portable and easy to maneuver if you want to hold it while you read. As for the reg ipad I found it way to heavy. Also a keyboard for the ipad mini is pretty helpful for when you need to type notes etc. they have some pretty nice ones on Amazon and for a reasonable price.

georgia rose,
I have a regular iPad 2 (the new iOS7 makes it seem brand new!) And I actually bought it refurbished from apple. I would recommend it over the iPad mini (which my bf has) because I just think the bigger screen is easier to read. Plus, to be perfectly honest, I think that buying a refurbished ipad 2 was one of the better decisions I've made- It cost less than the new mini, they give you a brand new screen, a brand new battery, a brand new charger, and, they include a 1 yr warranty (same as all other apply products) in case anything malfunctions. I would HIGHLY recommend buying a full size one refurbished. I can not tell the difference between mine and a new one. I love it.

Man, I just can't get down with reading for long periods of time on a backlit screen. The original kindle screen is the only type of screen I can read books off of. Even with kindle I miss the pages in my hands. That tactile stimulation of turning a page I guess is key for me. I wish I could get over it, sure would save me the strain of carrying my gigantic textbooks around.
