Hey Texans
I am considering returning to school for a second BSN degree. My initial BS degree was not from a Texas university. Does anyone know how picky schools are about Texas specific pre-requisites? Obviously I did not take courses in Texas history or Texas government. I am looking at schools in the Houston area - UH, UT Houston, UTMB, etc These extra classes would be a pain to take in terms of time and money.
Thanks and happy new year!

Hi TX2015. I'm pretty sure any 4-year public university will require you take the Texas history and government, I believe it's a core requirement regardless. I think you can only get around it if you pursued an ADN instead or went to a private university (but they will probably require some other course, like religion).

Wait... you have a BSN already? You don't need to take another one. Even if you got it in the Northland, it's a BSN and it's good to work or take the NCLEX in TX.
If this was a typo and in reality you have a BS (not a nursing BSN), and you want to transfer credits to a TX BSN program, then go visit the school(s) you're targeting and ask the admissions counselor how many of those credits will transfer (science courses >5 yrs old generally have to be retaken) and ask about the TX history requirement. Private university or college may not require it. They are the ones to ask about that.

PP is correct. Texas History & Gov are state-specific requirements for a degree from a Tx public (tax supported) school. Both can be interesting & are absolutely required if you intend to qualify for Texas citizenship . "Politics in Texas - the finest form of free entertainment ever invented"..... Molly Ivins
