Okay so im applying to uthscsa for the spring and was wondering if anyone knows what gpa they look at and any other helpful ideas to get an interview etc. my prereq gpa is 3.74 but my overall gpa is a 3.44...is that going to hurt my chances? i went in for a transcript review and debbie calculated the wrong gpa for me and i didnt notice until i got home. i hope they dont mess up with my application. eeeek im so nervous i wanna do everything possible to get in!!:D the only other place im applying to is sac but i much rather get my bachelor degree then an associates....

Okay...so about identifying. I don't know if we all want to wear a certain color or something, so i thought it would just be easier to describe me:) I wear glasses and I have long curly blond hair. You will probably be able to find me unless we have a ton of other curly headed blondes this semester;) I think I will probably be wearing a black turtle neck. Any other ideas on how i can find you guys? See you later!

You look like half the girls in my classes!

You look like half the girls in my classes!

Normally the hair is a unique selling point. I will now be wearing a pink/orange scarf to avoid any confusion;)

Aww! I wish i could have been there for the meet and greet!! :( Anything you guys can fill me in on?? Is there anybody still waiting on their background check??

Can't wait to get there!! :)

Any recomendations for a future applicant?

Question for everyone that got in, do most of you have a bachelors already? I have all my pre-reqs and a little more... but no volunteer experience or anything extra. what types of things do they look for in an applicant? My GPA is around 3.5. just wondering about my chances... any recomendations for a future applicant??

Thanks!!

Future.... so glad i got to meet you tonight. It went really late. we didn't end until 7.

To everyone who didn't make it make sure you get your h1n1 and seasonal flu shot and get the form to fill out because clinicals will/may require this. Someone mentioned that walgreens is making appointments so check your local walgreens. See you all very soon:)

Hey all... Cali, same here, good to meet you. I was surprised at the turnout, there were a lot of people there, although half of them were Graduate students it seemed... yeah it went a little long, I stayed until 6:45 or so, but they answered a lot of questions! Who else from this board was there? They said there are roughly 123 enrolled students for the Spring 2010 program, and of those I am one of only 22 males! The clinical lab area was neat, they demonstrated the mannequins for us, really cool stuff we're getting into.

nmy30, as for your question, I didn't have any volunteer experience whatsoever beforehand, just my pre-reqs, your GPA sounds good, just prepare for the TEAS test if you can. If anyone has any questions about what they said, I can answer (ifI remember what they told us hahaha).

Specializes in ICU.

I was there for a little bit, just wanted to see what the new class looks like. I was the asian guy all dressed up in back talking to the two students who spoke to you girls/guys. (but that was only for like 10 minutes) I guess i could have spoke being a peer advisor, but i'll see you people at BORING orientation... I'll try and see if we peer advisors can put in some games or something...

Future you're funny, trust me you will learn to dread and hate the skills lab...

Quick question... anyone else still have the background check hold? I can't seem to get that taken care of yet, just wondering if I'm the only one, I still haven't even received the blue postcard that the Board of Nursing is supposed to send. Let me know...

I still have my hold

I have had quite some time trying to locate those H1N1 shots but i did see that the Quality urgent care right outside 1604 on 281 they have a sign that states that they still have shots avaliable if anyone is looking to do that early. Also, the city is giving flu shots at the clinic downtown and on west/blanco for the seasonal. Flu.gov will help you keep track of places that open up with the H1N1 vaccination. The school said they will be getting some in Jan. as well. Just sharing what I found out. Good luck to those trying to clear those holds,

I went to Wednesday night also but I must have sat in a different area than you two, Future and Calinative. I have curly hair too, Cali! But mine is red.

It seemed to me that quite a few students are having problems with the BON regarding background checks. The only real advice I got out of the meeting regarding the background check issue was if you had your check done greater than 3 weeks ago--you should call the BON to check on things. Sorry no help on how to actually do that.

It is always amazing to me at the different things each of us hears and remembers when hearing/attending the same event. Also, there were several different group tours with different information and questions being asked. So for those that went Wednesday, what was the most important thing you go out of it?
