UT houston or HBU fall 09 applicants?

U.S.A. Texas

I just applied to UT houston and HBU for the generic BSN for fall 09. I was just wondering if anyone else has also applied or has any good info on the HBU process.

I applied to UT and I'm in the process of applying to HBU (waiting on my school to send them my transcripts) I am really hoping to get into UT so I haven't looked into the application process for HBU too deeply. I'm suprised more people haven't posted on the site yet about applications for fall of 2009....or maybe its still too early and I'm already overly anxious :)

I just graduated from HBU, so I know the HBU process. There's really no interview or anything like other nursing schools. I can't even remember an essay. Pretty much, once you meet the requirements, you enter the rankings. It may have changed a bit since I got in, but probably not by much. More BSN people waiting than ADN, but both degrees pretty much do the exact same thing with the exclusion of the research/epi courses. It's kinda a ranking thing that they do, and right now, they are taking more people in than ever, as the retention rates are...not so good. Part of the reason is that people find out they don't like nursing or that they don't like the program/coursework is hard.

The nursing advisor is an awesome person to call up to ask any major questions about the process (ie. when you will find out).

I liked the program for the most part - really, really difficult, but when you tell people in interviews that you go there, they get very excited. The ICU course is the worst one, test-wise, but it can be done.

I am also hope to get into UT and applied to HBU- just in case. I hear that HBU takes their own students before they look at other apps so I don't hold much hope. HBU is also very expensive but would attend if only option (my first option is UT!) If you don't mind my asking where are you taking your prereqs and how did you do on the NET? Nice to hear from a fellow applicant. I am very anxious! Best of luck to you!!!!

Hey Earthcrosser! Congrats! on graduating!!!! I was wondering if you took all your pre-reqs at HBU before you got into the nursing program? I here that if you don't attend HBU for pre-reqs chances of getting into the nursing program are very slim. I was just wondering your input on that info!

No, I took most of them at another college, however, I screwed myself over there and did badly on my last semester at UTA because I was very, very depressed and didn't care about school. I transferred to HBU and finished up my religion courses the first quarter (gained an awesome GPA in the process) and was accepted after finishing up that quarter there. They do like their own students, however, several students in my class did not attend HBU for any of their prereqs before being accepted to the CON. It really is based off of your GPA and grades within the core courses.

And they've lowered their admission standards, so it's probably much easier to get in now than it was for admission in Spring '06. It's really not impossible, but I think with every school, they tend to love their own just a tiny bit more.

I applied for UT Houston and UTMB. HBU is beyond what I can afford.

Are all these school for full time programs? I need to work so I am looking for a school either on weekends or once a week to get my BSN. I already have a BS in nutritonal science. Any suggestions?

i have applied to hbu for fall 2009 nursing program. when are we expected to hear from them? i find their process a little more complicated than others

Well you have to apply to the college first and wait for an acceptance letter. Once you get your general acceptance letter they auto forward your application to the nursing program. I have already received my general acceptance letter and called the nursing program. They told me I did not need to do anything except take a reading & writing exam. They said not to expect to hear anything until May regarding acceptance/decline into the nursing school. I really want to get into UT so I am holding out for that interview letter at this point! Best of Luck to you and please keep me updated on your status!

yes, i receieved an acceptance letter into the college as well, but have not heard anything else. I am aware of the reading and writing proficiency exam, as I was told that I need to take them as well.

I was not aware that we would not be recieivng letters of acceptance/denial until May. Thanks for this information and please keep me posted.

I am currently at HBU in the BSN program...please take this advice and do not go there....this semester alone my tuition was over 10,000 just for the 4 nursing courses im taking....it is extremely difficult to pass the classes..I have a 4.0 right now but my cohort has lost 12 students in the past 2 semesters....the worst thing about this program is the policy they have which is no matter what average grade you hold in a class if you dont make at least a 75 on the final exam you fail!!!! it is absolutley insane....very rude and unsupportive staff ....im trying to transfer to TWU ...please dont waste your money
