There is an open house tomorrow at the Houston campus which should include a tour of the school...I think I'm going to go to that...it starts at 8am!!! Hope to see ya'll there

i went to the open house a couple weekends ago, they didn't let us see the labs or anything, so i was kind of diappointed in the whole thing. the beginning is a bunch of people talking about different things, but its mostly on how to apply, etc. so it wasn't useful

I never had the chicken pox vaccine but I had the chicken pox...they aren't going to make me get the vaccine are they or just the blood test?
They will want a titer on you. The doctor will draw blood and test it for chicken pox immunity. They will want a copy of the lab report for the varicella titer.

ok guys, i think i'm leaning towards ut health science center for school...does anybody have any reasons why i should choose twu over ut? or if you didn't apply to ut, why not?

did they say why? i don't understand why they don't just treat dallas and houston the same
I know! Just because we are a newer campus doesn't mean we always have to be last with everything. They should send everything out the same time regardless of the campus.

If you feel UT is the school for you,you should go to UT if that's where you see yourself.UT is a great school too.I didn't apply of UT because I wasn't comfortable with the intense second semester during the summer.Nursing school is ganna be intense, so jumping right into another semester may burn me out haha.I know a lot of people only see themselves in UT,but it wasn't really the school for me.It just all depends on the person.

thats exactly why i'm hesitant on going there! i'm not sure why but i can just picture myself more there than at twu, but i really don't know how i feel about the summer semester thing

Yeah,I see where you have a dilemma.I mean,if you feel you can handle going right into another semester of crazy intense studying, and clinical hours without taking a break; then shortly after going into your third semester without being burnt out, you should do it. Especially If you feel you'll have regrets later for not picking UT. I mean it's really ganna be tough either way.Nursing school is ganna be so different from the college life we are so used too.Ya just gotta mentally prepared for that continuous intensity at UT.You'll be fine.

Ok Houston acceptees.Well what I assume we are waiting for isn't really a packet, its more of a letter with some dates and 2 other sheets.I got my letter today of Important Information,Required Drug Screening form, and a FAST Fingerprint Applicant Services form. Our first advisement orientation session at the Houston campus is on Friday December 11,2009 from 8:00am -1:00 pm.Our other orientation is on Jan 14.

Congrats guys! I graduated from TWU Houston in 2006 and now work in MICU. It was hard but I enjoyed it and I made some of my best friends there. Enjoy the new building, the old one had one woman's room per floor and the lines were crazy! Nursing tests are different, you're used to A+B = C always. In nursing school there is always more than one answer, the test questions are always "What would the nurse do first" and the answer is almost never "Call the Dr." Good Luck!

thanks for the tips Tibbymc! I was going to send you a private message to ask you this question so people that it doesn't apply to don't have to read it, but for some reason it wouldn't let me! basically, i'm trying to decide between twu and ut health science center, and was wondering if you could let me know what the general reputation of each school is. i know they're both great schools, and obviously you'll be a bit bias as a twu grad, but is there anything you have experienced maybe with coworkers who are uthsc grads, that makes you glad you went to twu?

Try it now if you want specifics, I had to jump through hoops to reactivate my account. This was harder than making changes to my bank account haha! As far as the schools go they're going to have the same curriculum, but I've heard UT Houston has a summer semester which I did not like. Some of the teachers are even the same, at least for patho. Once you graduate and start working it won't matter where you went because no nursing school can really teach you what you'll need to know, that's why getting a summer job is so important. I worked in an ER the summer before I graduated and I got more out of clinicals that last semester because of it. I'm not saying you don't learn anything in clinicals, but it's much different and they treat you different when you're done with school and working. Good luck choosing, in the long run it won't matter. TWU's tuition might still be cheaper though, I talked to a UTH student while in school and she was complaining that the cost went up. I can't recall any UTH coworkers either, mostly TWU, UT Austin, PVAM, and community colleges.
