TWU Spring 2010

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Is anyone out there applying to TWU for the Spring of 2010? Just thought that I would start a group for all of us hopefuls so we could share information and have a way to communicate with each other.

Have you taken your HESI A2 yet? Have you taken all of your pre-reqs? If not, what do you have left to take?

I have taken all of my pre-reqs, and I just took my HESI yesterday. I didn't think it was bad at all, but I prepared for it for about 3 weeks.

If you haven't noticed, TWU has made some slight changes that I think some people will not be happy with. They are taking into consideration the first grade made at pre-req attempts for several of the classes like A&P, micro, and another class. What do you think of this? I wonder how it will change the applicants chances of getting in?

Good luck and I look forward to meeting you!

You have awesome stats! So I'm sure its a error. They hope be emailing more on Monday, but letters should be getting through the postal services soon

I don't mind sharing my stats to help others! 3.9 gpa I made 84 composite hesi and 890 critical thinking. Good luck to all! I am also attending the open house on the 5 th because I haven't been yet!:D

ditto here... does anyone have any info about TWU-H VS UT-H? I actually like the idea of 4 consecutive semesters with UTH but other than that I'm at a loss. I haven't done much research to actually pick one or the other because I didn't want to jinx myself! Since TWU's accept/decline deadline is so close to UT's decision, I better start looking just in case.. BUT even if i don't get in UT, TWU is fine with me! =D

I have to agree that I like the fact that there are no summer breaks. I am so used to summer school at this point that I am like why not?? Hopefully this does not come back to haunt me lol. I currently attend UT Austin so although they are not directly related I tend to lean towards UT Houston. I just dont want to make the wrong decision

Ali I am so sorry to hear about your friend! I have witnessed cancer up close and personal with several family members. There is no doubt your friend is very grateful for your presence in their life as well as your loyalty.

I am going to try and get more information from UTHSC...if there is a way they can notify us earlier or possibly tell us the date they will be changing the admissions status online. I have a feeling it will be before nov 15th for sure...I am really just rooting for before the 9th!

Either way...both are great nursing programs!!

Congratulations to everyone who got in, I'm so excited for all of you!!

I still haven't received an email for Houston or Dallas :( I am wondering if there is some kind of error or what? My GPA is a 3.92 and my HESI score was an 82 with an 850 critical thinking score. I would think that would have at least qualified me for Houston.... any ideas? I'm totally bummed.

lhojo, I would call on Monday to see what is going on with your application. Check the mail today just in case to see if there is a letter; maybe they messed up your email address? Last semester, there was a similar situation in that the person had the stats, but the advisor messed up the GPA. But they were put first on the wait list, so when someone rejected TWU, they were first to get in. They were accepted quickly after that.

I was accepted to both UTA and TWU, so this is my comparison list; I'll share so it helps you and maybe others. I made it last night with my husband.

I will compare:

1. NCLEX pass rates

2. Cost of classes per semester or cost of classes for 4 semesters (whichever one I can find)

3. Curriculum: what classes are taught at TWU that are not taught at UTA, and vice versa.

4. Distance and time driving from home to school

5. Is the school accredited?

6. Where clinicals are taught at; small towns/small hospitals will not get good "cases" or as many patients whereas big towns get good "cases", if you get what I am saying.

7. Is there a ranking for the school?

8. What is the job rate for those who graduate and actually find a job after graduation?

9. How many hours per semester I would end up taking at each school?

10. How long the entire program is.

11. Cost of rent of where I live now vs. cost of rent of where I would live if I moved

12. What is the location like of the school? Is the school in good condition (you don't want to be learning in a crappy, run-down location).

13. What is an advantage that each school has over the other (like UTA has the smart hospital, TWU does not).

Hope this helps!

Does everybody mind sharing their stats for thoose who got accepted or rejected to help the future TWU appplicants in the future TWU forums? I got accepted to the houston campus and I'M 4.0 GPA with no .4 bump and 88 composite Hesi Score

Sure:

GPA=3.811 (with no 0.4 bump; retook history 1 and 2 and gov 2 for A's since I had B's)

HESI A2: 89 composite with 800 critical thinking score.

Word of Advice: REGISTER TO TAKE THE HESI FOR TWU. THEN TRANSFER YOUR GRADES TO ANOTHER SCHOOL IF YOU NEED TO. TWU will not take the scores for/from another school, even if the sections are the same.

Awesome list you came up with! Thanks!

I am also going to add what kind of graduate programs each school has. If anyone is considering furthering their education after a BSN, it may be beneficial to attend undergrad at the school you will eventually return to for graduate studies. I haven't looked to see what each school offers, if they are different or the same yet. When I do, i'll post the info I found!

has anybody faxed in the confirmation letter yet?

I don't mind sharing - I had a 3.83 gpa and a 94 on the HESI with an 800 in critical thinking. Dallas folks - anybody up for meeting up somewhere for happy hour next Friday, 11/6 to celebrate and get to know each other?

that's another reason i was leaning toward UTHSC, as of now my plan is to go back to school to become a crna and UTHSC nursing grad program is ranked 19th in the country (TWU is ranked 54 i believe, and they don't have a crna program)

i hope our UTLINK changes soon!

Interestingly enough I am going along the same path as you are! TWU does not have a CRNA program. There are only five in the state of Texas and two are in houston- UTHSC and Baylor. I have been told time and again that it is a very competitive program to get into at any school-as they accept very few students each year. I am curious if attending UTHSC for BSN gives you an upperhand at getting into their Master's CRNA program. Some schools actually tend to lean the other way and seek students that have not attended any of their programs (that is atleast how UT law school is). I am hoping UTHSC is the other way around because I would love to get both degrees from UTHSC!

has anybody faxed in the confirmation letter yet?

I just tried about an hour ago at FedEx-Kinko's. The line was busy! I could not get through and tried a few times!

Anyone else having the same problem?
