Speeding tickets and employment

U.S.A. Texas

Uugghh!!!! I did not know speeding tickets are class c misdemeanors in Texas. I had to resubmit application with correction to question asking if I had a misdemeanor. I already had interview but they are doing background check now. I was told at first that they will not hire you if you have a speeding ticket because it is a criminal offense but then was told to submit info and that it won't cause me to not get the job. How many of you have speeding tickets and have jobs? I'm so stressed. To think my whole career is over because of a speeding ticket is just the worse thing I can imagine.

I never knew that having a speeding ticket was a criminal offense. i guess you learn something new everyday.

Once you are going a large amount over the speed limit (generally at least 20mph over) then it becomes reckless endangering and can be a misdemeanor offense. I know this because an officer once informed me that I was technically speeding enough to get a ticket to this gravity, but since I was from out of state no misdemeanor charges or points on my license transferred to my home state.

Very clearly reads when renewing

"(You may only exclude Class C misdemeanor traffic violations or offenses previously disclosed to the Texas Board of Nursing on an initial or renewal application.)"

FYI, sometimes the question is asked to see if you are honest and disclose all offenses, including traffic tickets. It's not that the employer or licensing body actually cares about traffic tickets - it's a test to see if you honestly disclose everything. If the applicant hides tickets, what else might he or she be hiding?

I think it's more to see if you read things carefully. Who would hide a speeding ticket??

Well, it's not hiding it if they instruct you to exclude it...

This post was about a job application, not a nursing license application/renewal.

Plus this is a 4 year old thread, I think the issue has been resolved by now.

Yes, I saw that. I wanted to clarify for people who ended up here after a web search as that's what happened to me

Even four year old threads pop up on search results and I had to do more digging to find out, and actually found it on the BON site.

Thanks ;)
