Midland/Odessa

U.S.A. Texas

I am relocating to the Midland/Odessa area next month....I just found out today that my husband is getting transferred. I just graduated RN school this week with an associates and start my online BSN through a university here in Oklahoma in August. I will be licensed in Oklahoma but I am applying for endorsement as soon as I receive my license. I have been looking today at jobs in the area. Does anyone know what the job market is like for new grads in the area, especially if they are from out of state?

Wow - talk about great timing, huh? I am not up to date with the job market in the M-O area, but have not heard of any problems getting jobs in that area lately. Best of luck to you and your DH.

Midland Memorial offers a Versant RN residency program for new graduates with less than 6 months. Unfortunately, you missed the deadline for the one that begins in June, however you have plenty of time to apply for the September cohort.

I am currently in the application process with this hospital for their June residency. Best of luck to you! If there are any questions I can answer for you, don't hesitate to ask.

Finadul,

I actually was able to get everything in and have an interview with Midland Memorial next week! I'm really excited and hope it all works out! What area are you interested in?

Does anyone have anything to add regarding the housing crisis going on there? I was accepted into the Midland Memorial Program but am having a VERY hard time finding housing.

They were telling me about that on the phone the other day. She told me they were working on temporary housing. My husband and I are heading down to house hunt this weekend and the housing market in definitely different than it is up here in Oklahoma! 240zRN what area did you choose to go into for the program?

I chose ED and was awarded the spot. I am now waiting for HR to give me the final details. I am very frustrated with this housing situation though. I am coming from northern California, which is one of the most expensive places to live, but I am seeing rent prices that match and rival what I pay here. I'm dreading half my income going to an apartment when I also have student loans to pay. I've put myself on the wait lists I could, many places require an in-person application process as well as a fee, which is nonrefundable.

Please update this thread with any information you've found regarding housing availability. It would help so much. I don't have eyes on the scene so I am limited to internet surfing for the time being.

I will definitely let you know if I find out anything while I am down there this weekend. I have heard nothing but awful things about the housing situation. I interview on Monday for the ICU, I'm crossing my fingers that it goes well! I'm really nervous because I put all of my eggs in one basket with this hospital. Did they offer you the position right away or did it take a few days?

They called me 5 minutes after my interview. So yeah, right away. Good luck! Interview questions were pretty straight forward, nothing out of the blue for me.

I interviewed for the ICU/CCU position last week - was called today and offered a position.

Awesome! I interviewed yesterday and they called about 10 min after I left to offer the position. I was really excited! 240zRN it looks like I have no news to report on the housing situation. We had a wide price range we were looking in and only about 8 houses to look at (none of which were ideal and all were insanely overpriced) We ended up settling on a new construction home that won't be finished until the beginning of July. They told us that there really are no apartments available and the ones that do come up and insanely expensive. I'm hoping I can find an extended stay hotel to room in while they are finishing my house and before my husband comes down. They said those can even go for $300 a night. It is a crazy situation down there

I decided to decline the offer. Best of luck to all of you on the housing situation, sounds a little scary but I am sure you'll find something. CONGRATULATIONS!!
