I do appreciate it, but I feel that I'm being attacked for not being a ray of sunshine when I feel I'm simply being realistic. It's also embarrassing to have to explain to people over and over why a BSN program is NOT on the cards for me. I have looked at every program in north Texas that I can find, and there are no BSN programs that are realistic because my GPA will keep me out. It isn't a question of not giving up, or being determined, or having a positive attitude. If the minimum requirement is a 3.0 and you have a 2.5, no amount of positive thinking or wishing will change that. That is what I am trying to say. I have actually contacted every school except TWU and I've been honest about my UG record, and each and every one of them have told me to forget it and to not waste my time applying, and they've all suggested that I go the ADN route instead.

So please, please don't ask me to explain this again, and please nobody suggest a BSN program. It's depressing because if someone suggests it I feel I have to address it, otherwise they probably feel like I'm ignoring what they said and then they get offended, and then things get more difficult.

Hard to be positive right now.

Do you have information on the ECC nursing program? I would be happy to send it to you if you don't already have it. It is hard and no, a positive attitude won't give you the moon. You will have to start over with your pre-reqs and I don't think there's anyway around that and I'm very sorry that you will have to do that but that's what will have to be done.

Don't waste your time with a BSN program right now if this is what they tell you. I know it's easier said than done but move on and go for an ADN. Try just taking one class in the Spring such as A&P and see if this is something you really want to do. That's how I started and I realized how much I was interested in this profession....it's never too late. We have people almost in their 60s in our class starting a totally second career and life.

You've been through a lot in your life according to your posts. I am sorry for that. God knows you're special and He knows your full potential and that's obvious through what you've been handed in this life. Faith helps me a lot too...

I do hope you continue to post here and let us know how you're doing. You can always PM me.

I think, we all want to encourage you, it is up to you now , to take some of those suggestions in a positive way . We can't do that for you, we can only let you know that we all had to overcome obstacles ourselves.

I'll tell you my story

I am from Germany, was an RN over there, came over here with my husband in 1990, and not only was my nursing degree not accepted , but I was told that my secondary basic schooling was not equivalent to the US. and I had to get an GED. How stupid did that make me feel. And trust me, I was terrified. Even though I learned English in school over there, I was majorly intimidated and so I just did not pursue it any further. I had babies and was mommy over the years. I did get my GED back then , that was it. Now I am 42, I picked myself up, scared to death,( I knew I forgot everything about nursing ) I went to a CC, I had to do a Intermediated Algebra Course first and then I went from there.

Everyday, I still go in there , with my stomach churning, scared that I fail, but I am determined. This has been my dream job, as long as I can remember, and hopefully I can retire in it.

I wish you good luck, you CAN DO IT !!!

As a person who who struggles with depression, believe me, I feel your pain.

Have you considered treatment for the depression? When I started with treatment and meds I swear my life changed.

They will have to pry my Zoloft from my cold, dead hands and even then I will probably come back and put up a fight! :lol2:

I do have to say it is very fascinating learning about everyone's life.

Lady_db,

If you re-do all the pre-reqs, will that be enough to lift your 2.5 to a 3.0?

That way you can apply to EC/NL and the 2nd degree programs at TWU and TCU....

I know th more credit you ahve the ahrder it is to move your GPA statistically, but I was just wondering.

Don't worry, you be depressed for a bit. Of course we will all keep brainsrotming until we come up with a solution to your problem. We are a determined bunch of meddlers! :lol2:

My GPA isn't a 2.5, that was just an example. If I got As on all the pre-reqs it would not be enough; I have too many hours of credit for a handful of classes to move my GPA. Even if I could get just on the brink it wouldn't be enough, since doing the bare minimum rarely is and I'll be up against students with 3.8s on their UG degrees and 4.0s on the pre-reqs. I wouldn't have a chance and to me it is not worth the effort when I know from the outset that it is absolutely hopeless.

I think I will just focus my efforts on the ADN program but if I make a single B on any pre-req, I think I can reasonably throw in the towel since I probably wouldn't get in ever.

El Centro doesn't look at all of your classes & GPA....only for the required pre-reqs.

Now that's some motivation - and look how far you've come! and how little you've left to go. We all have challenges, and we can all overcome them when we're ready to...sometimes we just have to sink to an all time low to be ready :bluecry1:

Yep - she's right. Overall GPA doesn't mean squat - only the 4 pre-req classes, and then the support class grades - if you can get through those 4, and start the supports, you should be fine - but you'll never know if you don't try.

No, I'm not getting treatment because I'm not actually depressed. I only get this way when I think about school. If I didn't have to worry about changing careers, I'd be fine. It's not like I think I'm stupid or anything...I know I'm not...but I'm also not naive about how college works. I busted my ass the first semester and still pulled nothing but straight Bs even though my exam scores were higher than that. For example, in my Spanish class I averaged a 96% but received a B because of UT's asinine curve/quota system. So I know that even if I bust my ass this time, the dream could still be snatched away from me no matter how hard I work.

I don't hate myself, I don't want to die, I don't have thoughts about harming myself. I'm just realistic about what college was like for me, fearful it will happen again, and I've come to terms with the fact that my UG GPA will follow me around for the rest of my life and I won't get a second chance.

When I first applied to ECC- I didn't get in because I received a B in A&P I. I really was devastated. I signed up to retake A&P I in the Spring and didn't apply again and I found out that the lowest one they took that time was people who got Bs in A&P I. I was very irritated but I learned that the competition really does change every semester. I got my A in A&P I and reapplied in the Fall to get in for the Spring and I got in. I am so thankful for the people I did meet that I wouldn't have known had I gotten in back in Spring of '05.

I know, that's why it's probably the only program I'll bother applying to.
