El Centro - Fall 07 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Anyone out there? If you are applying for the Fall '07 class, what are your:

1) Pre-req GPA

2) Hours of Support Courses

3) Support Courses GPA

I have this:

1) 4.0

2) 9 hrs

3) 3.67

Wondering if it's enough to get accepted. I heard that the lowest to get in last round was with a Pre-Req GPA of 3.67...if that's the case I am in!

I'm considering this option, but I saw in the DCCCD course catalog that there's also a Spring entry to the LVN program. I am very interested in this, but the El Centro website only lists the Fall entry program. Does anyone know anything about the Spring entry? I'm thinking it's probably too late to apply for it anyway, though, if it does exist.

I am visiting with someone from Concorde today to look into their LVN program. I have no idea on the cost, but I'm betting that El Centro's is cheaper. Any insight in one vs. the other?

If I were applying for El Centro here are my stats:

1) 4.0 (my English is a CR)

2) 49 (this is all of our other college course work, right?)

3) 3.71 (this will be lower after this semester's grades post :scrying: )

2) 49 (this is all of our other college course work, right?)

They only count the course that are in the the general education support, other than pre-reqs:

-Dev. Psych

-A&P 2

-Micro

-Speech Comm.

-Humanities

They don't care about the other credit hours if they don't apply to their program.

Where did you find that list or support courses? I can't find it!! :sniff:

Based on the new information, here are my corrected stats:

1) 4.0 (with the Eng. CR)

2) 7 (A&P 2 and Dev. Psych)

3) 4.0

I hope I figured that right!

OH, we were talking about 2 different programs. I feel dumb!! I was talking about the LVN program, not the ADN program.

Sorry!!

Hi,

I have been accepted into the Spring 2007 ADN program at North Lake College. For the Spring 2007 class the stats from my acceptance letter: The LOWEST ranking accepted applicant at the El Centro campus had a prereq. GPA of 4.0 with 10 credit hours of support courses completed with a 3.40 GPA. The LOWEST accepted applicant at the North Lake campus had a prereq. GPA of 4.0 with 9 credit hours of support courses completed with a 4.0 GPA. ALSO, I would highly, highly encourage you to take as many support classes as you possibly can BEFORE you apply. If we did not have PSYC 2314 Developmental Psychology and SCIT 1408 (BIOL 2402) A & P 2 completed then we also had to enroll in those 2 classes along with our nursing classes. I applied with all but Micro. complete, and I am required to take that this summer. But if you are applying for Fall 2006 you will be required to take PSYC 2314 Developmental Psychology and SCIT 1408 (BIOL 2402) during your 1st semester of the ADN program and you may be required to take BIOL 2420 Microbiology during your 2nd semester of nursing school. I have friends who have just completed 1st semester and some that have just completed 2nd semester and they all stress how much time just the nursing classes take up so it is in your best interest NOT to have to take any support classes in any of your 4 nursing school semesters. I hope this info. helps and I wish you guys the best.

The only other support classes I lack are A&P 2 and Micro, and I am enrolled to take them this Spring. So, if I get accepted for Fall 07, I will have all the support courses out of the way. If I don't get in, then I'll just keep up the pace and take more classes towards my Bachelors from TWU. Either way, I'll be making progress, it just may take longer for an actual degree, whether it's the ADN or BS.:uhoh3:

Well you are certainly on the right track and you will be very happy once you get in that you won't have to worry with support classes anymore. The 'LOWEST accepted applicant' stats do fluctuate some each application period, depending on how many actually apply. I don't know how many applied for Spring 2007. If you don't get accepted for Fall 2007 don't give up. Quite often people don't get in the first time they apply. Just keep making progress and you will get accepted. El Centro has a reputation for producing some very good nurses. I wish you the best and hope you make the Fall 2007 class.

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

PreNurseKirk -- I had your stats when I applied for Spring 07, and I was wait listed. I did get in off the wait list, but it was a nervous few weeks.

However, for some reason, the Fall classes historically tend to have lower GPAs as the minimum.

Best of luck to you. Feel free to come check out the threads in the Nursing student forums for ECC/NL students :)

Specializes in ER, tele, vascular.

Just finished El Centro's program this past Friday.
