I have 1 year experience and enrolled in RN-BSN. Interested in working for St. Joseph's Medical Center, The Methodist, Memorial Hermann, VA Hospital, Ben Taub and LBJ. What's the likelihood of getting hired with an ADN? What is the pay rate, weekend differential, etc? What are the pros and cons of each hospital?

St. Jo & LBJ are not part of TMC. St. Jo is close, but it is now for-profit (owned by IASIS) and all TMC hospitals must be not-for-profit.
TMC hospitals are BSN only when it comes to new grads & new grad residency is the ONLY route to employment. Some of them, like Ben Taub & Methodist - have very high standards for acceptance into their residency programs. If you have a clinical rotation in any TMC hospital, you may be able to obtain a PCT job. These usually go very fast, so you'll need an 'inside connection' to land one.
There is a mystique to working in TMC facilities... I guess that's why they have no shortage of applicants - LOL. But there are also many disadvantages. Just getting to work is a pain - parking in remote (for which you have to pay!) lots & riding shuttle bus to work will add an additional hour to your commute time each day. Massive bureaucracy.. dealing with the med students, residents, etc. The major plus is educational opportunity - continuing education & nearby nursing schools for formal education.
Honestly, the overall environment in the larger outlying facilities is much nicer. Memorial City is very nice as are the new facilities in areas like SugarLand, Pearland, Katy, Woodlands, etc. Salaries will be very comparable - they are all competing for the same applicant pool.

Hello!!! I'm relocating to Houston Texas area soon, pending my TX license. Offered a position at TMC-Memorial Herman, looking at Pearland, TX for relocating. How's the area? Average rent? The traffic? I'm working nights too :) :) Appreciate any insights on suggestions on places to live. I don't mind being outside of Houston area at all. Let me know
Thanks , in advance :)
