Texas jobs!!

It doesn't suprise me salaries are so high in Texas. Someone I know has an uncle who is a cop is Corpus Christi almost making $100K but that is including extra jobs like patroling the beach during spring break. Once I become a RN I'm already planning on moving to Texas, especially since its not to far from where I live now, Oklahoma. Since I won't be applying to the anesthesia program for at least 5-6 years from now, does anyone think salaries will be even higher than that by the time I would graduate?

Salaries are much higher than that here. Around 140-150K. Now I know that's not the normal salary for CRNAs in large cities. The benefit package is great. 5weeks vacation, 2 weeks sick leave, paid continuing education, paid health and malpractice insurance and retirement plan from day one. Awsome benefit package. I don't know how long that will last either b\c they are currently recruiting CRNAs for some spots they have open. Normal $$ is 100-120K depending on experience.

Brett is their base salary 120000, with the rest made up in call and overtime? I have not seen many jobs in Tennessee with a base salary of 150000.

Yes that's the base salary. I also forgot to mention that the hours are Monday-Friday 7a-3p. No weekends, call or holidays are required for CRNAs. The MDs are required to cover them. Like I said it's not the norm for our area. Most salaries are around 100K and that's with experience. The group is the largest here. 65 CRNAs and 54 MDs as of now and they cover 17 Hospitals and 5 ASCs. The only thing about it is that you are not always at the same facility. You don't know what hospital or ASC you'll be at the next day until after 3pm. That's the only drawback about the group but there are plans to change that in the future.

is it soo high because of the cost of living in corpus cristi. I have to admit I got a big grin when I saw those numbers.

I know someone from Corpus Christi and he told me that the cost of living is not that high there. We live in Oklahoma, which is one of the cheapest places to live in the country, and he said that its not to much more than here. For example, here you can get a basic 1 bedroom apartment for $300 and I own my 3 bedroom house for $500/mo.

The cost of living in Texas is generally lower than many other places, but don't expect $300 for rent. At that rate you would be living with roaches and the sound of neighborhood gunfire. Here in Dallas the typical one-bedroom rent is $700 per month. Many people pay AT LEAST $700 monthly. I have a nice place on the third (top) floor in a great part of the city for only $575 per month because I just got lucky when I moved here 4 years ago. There are comparable deals in other major Texas cities, especially now that the recession has led to so many vacant apartments. By the way, the cost of electricity is sky high here in Texas. Examine those high paying Texas CRNA listings closely, and you will find they are usually for jobs in less populated areas of the state. If you want to live and work in a rural area, then you can earn more than living in the city.

I just want to verify that I never said you can rent a place for $300 in Texas. I said that I know someone from Corpus who told me that it is not much higher than here in Oklahoma. For Example, before I had kids I had a one bedroom apartment in a gated community in the suburbs of OKC for $300. Never seen a roach once the whole time I lived there or heard gunfire or anything else like that.
