I wanted to start this for students/first year nurses who are applying at Texas Children's for the summer 2020 cohort, the application should open end of February/March. If anyone has insight to the firm timeline, good contacts, unit specific knowledge, this would be a good place do talk about it!

Normally you can, as long as you haven’t signed an official contract. I’m from DFW, so I received an offer from Women’s Services, but later on received an offer from Children’s Health and declined my previous offer and my interview with Texas Children’s. Thought it would be better to allow those who are in Houston to go after that opportunity!!

I was always advised against declining an offer after you’ve accepted it, as it can be kind of unprofessional. Just make sure you haven’t signed anything binding you to that hospital if you do end up doing that.

Same here. Our school advises against it and will actually bar us from career services if we renege an offer because it reflects badly on the program. It burns bridges and can make it hard to get opportunities from that employer in the future. Technically you CAN rescind an offer as long as you haven't signed contracts, but it's unprofessional.

I agree it looks bad, but if it's your dream job vs a job you would hate I say go for the dream job! In 6 months you will be happy you took what you were excited about!
