This will be my first renewal of my license in the state of Texas. I know they require 20 CEU hours. I did see that is has to be in your current area of work (or previous if you are not currently in the workforce). Is this correct? I am not working but my previous job was in postpartum / gynecology. Are they pretty lenient? I am wondering if I can use things like domestic violence, drug addiction, diabetes etc for courses. I definitely came in contact with these types of things even though they are not specifically considered "postpartum or gynecology."
Also, who do you use for your online CEUs? There are so many companies that I just don't know who to pick. I did receive a magazine / course from Elite Continuing Education that said all I had to do was read the course and submit a course review and I would be done with all 20 hours. Is this legit? And it isn't on the subject of my previous area of work either.
Thanks in advance for any info:)

It is always helpful to get CEU's in your specialty, either past or present. I would encourage you to check the Texas BON site to see what they say. I often "stretch" outside my comfort zone & get CEUs in areas outside of my specialty (formerly, Neonatal/Perinatal), especially areas such as HTN and Diabetes. I use MedScape Nurses--they have free CEUs in addition to paid for CEUs. Check the info you received on the CEUs from Elite====they should list which states/orgs approve their CEU offerings.

Texas does not require the completion of any CEUs if this is your first renewal. The second renewal is the first time you'll need to complete any CEUs. Medscape.com offers them for free. Wild Iris Medical Education is an online CEU provider that offers them for a fee, but the content is high quality.
