Texas BON blue card

Published

I was recently accepted to Nursing school in Texas, and I am having trouble getting a direct answer to my question from TBON and my school. I am wondering if anyone has ever received a blue card from TBON with an arrest on their record that was dismissed completely. I didn't have to complete deferred adjudication and I was never charged with anything. There is just an arrest on my record that says not guilty, dismissed. Has anyone ever had any trouble receiving a blue card from TBON with an arrest of this type on their record, will it even ping on the TBON back ground check. Please help, I am very stressed about this issue.

Short answer, it shouldn't have an impact.

The Texas BON states itself, "To fulfill its mission of public protection, the Board believes that a single minor criminal incident, or minor criminal behavior, (including by applicants and petitioners for orders of eligibility), should be investigated when relevant, but should ordinarily not result in disciplinary action."

Included in that list of minor criminal incidents is: "An arrest for a misdemeanor that has been dismissed completely or where prosecution has been denied"

I have the same question. Did you receive a Blue Card or did you have to submit a D.O?

I ended up receiving my blue card! I was very pleased!

That’s awesome! How long did it take you to get your card? I really hope I don’t have to do the D.O (90 day process) because my school have a specific deadline to have all the additional documents.

I think it takes like a month, but if you end up having to do a D.O. My school allowed for people to turn in their D.O. Paper work to show that they were working on getting their blue card. Just talk to the nursing counselor and see if they will work with you, but I wouldn’t be too worried if your arrest was dropped with no conviction.

Okay, thank you so much. Hopefully my outcome will be to get my Blue Card and save some but if not, I’ll definitely talk to the nursing director of my school.

hi  im late to this thread, but did you ever recieve your blue card? & did you disclose your charge on your application? because I didn't thinking because it was dismissed and no charges where filed against me so I thought I didn't have to disclose the information. now it's just a waiting game, my brother recieved his and I didn't and we both went in for fingerprinting the same day, He doesn't have any record and got his right away and I haven't so I'm worried they saw mine and I won't receive my blue card?
