Texas A&M Health Science Center MSN Education

Hey guys...I'm interested in the MSN in Education program. Is anybody currently enrolled that can offer a critique?

I don't know if you're still interested in getting your MSN in education at TAMU, but I'll share my experience. The program is definitely doable but it ain't easy. It's online so you have to be the right kind of student for the online world.

You will need to be diligent with reading the material, and it's a lot. You need to have discipline, independent learning skills, good time management, dedication, computer skills, good writing skills.....cuz there's a lot of writing. Again, I stress time management because that is crucial. I'm going part-time, but it feels like full time because I spend most of my free time either reading, writing, or researching. Every week there is something due....either an assignment, quiz, discussion board with citations, and peer responses with citations. And all that I have mentioned takes hours, I mean hours. No joke.

Now the professors. They all have their doctorates. So, guess what that means? Yeah, means they don't take any pansy excuses. They are not at all compassionate if you have some real issues related to work and therefore difficulty with turning in assignments on time. The online world is a bit too cold and impersonal. Sure taking online courses is flexible, but there's a price to pay for that flexibility. Loads of reading, lots of learning on your own without having the ease of the instructor to break it down for you, weekly deadlines, and they take no excuses. Basically, it's just you and that book....for hours...and you will be expected to dissect, digest, comprehend and regurgitate all of the material in the book all by yourself. Wish you the best in any program that you decide on!
