What happens in the state of NV when you take the NCLEX three times?

NAC 632.165 Procedure for writing examination after initial attempt. (NRS 632.120, 632.305) 1. An applicant for licensing as a registered nurse or as a practical nurse may write the examination four times.

2. If the applicant is unsuccessful on the second attempt, before he may write the examination for the third time, he must present to the Board a plan of study, acceptable to the Board, for preparation to write the examination.

3. If the applicant is unsuccessful on the third attempt, he must repeat courses in nursing theory in a nursing program approved by the Board before he may write the examination for the fourth time.

Thank you! I have recently done some research and came to the conclusion that i can take the test else where, without going back to school. I have already done the hard work and graduated the RN program. Why do it all over again? I need some suggestions for testing material for prioritizing. Like what patients to see first. I have noticed that is the majority of the test and i get frustrated when i answer one right but then the test turns around and asks the same question a little different. Suggestions greatly appreciated!

Prioritization...fun stuff!

I think about the ABCs...airway, breathing, circulation, like in CPR. Those are always a priority.

Try taking a review course. I took the Hurst Review many years ago and I really liked it. She spent a lot of time on prioritization.

Do lots of questions. The more you do, the better feel you get for how they ask questions and how to get to the correct answer.

Forget "work" experience. The board expects you to answer questions from the experience of the novice nurse. (i.e. K+ is 2.9 after you gave Lasix 40 mg. What would you do? Yes you expect a drop because of diuresis, but you should still call the doctor because it's critical and you're new and don't know everything yet. In reality, in the ICU, if I have K+ replacement orders and no EKG changes I'm not calling. As a new nurse I shouldn't necessarily know that.)

Same question, worded differently, frustrating! I got 2 questions on the same stupid drug on my state boards. I think I missed at least one, maybe both. GRRR!

But yeah, research which states will let you take it unlimited times, and move there. You have to be a resident to test and get licensed there. Take the test, get your license, and get on with it. A girl I graduated moved to Mississippi after she failed the NCLEX in Louisiana twice. I took my test in Arkansas because it was more convenient but I was licensed in Louisiana because I was a resident.

Good luck to you.

I will call tomorrow about if i have to be a resident and figure it out. But thank you so much for taking the time to write me back. I found some books i think that may help me with strategies and skills and another book with just hundreds of reveiw questions with a lot of delegation and prioritzation questions. Just trying to find the best prices but i think by the time shipping and handling is all said and done. I would be better off just paying the $5-$10 more at Barnes & Noble to just have them today instead of 2-3 weeks from now. Thank you again!!!
