TN Nurses - Any input on Schools?!

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Hi. I am usually posting in the TN Nursing School area vs. this area, but was hoping maybe I could get some advice from actual working TN Nurses and not just students.

I have been accepted to both Belmont and Union's Accelerated BSN Programs.

So I ask of you how much does School matter when trying to get hired? What is the general reputation of graduates from either program? Any general thoughts on either program?

I will further say that I think Belmont is my first choice, however it will cost $20-25k more than Union...and I am trying to decide ultimately if Belmont is "worth it." I have to make this decision within the next few weeks and am feeling a bit overwhelmed. So I thank you in advance for your thoughts and insights!!!

The only advice I can give you since I went to neither of these schools is that we all take the same test at the end regardless of the price of the school. Also most of what you need to know about being a "real" nurse will be learned within your first year of nursing after passing nclex and obtaining your first position. The school is just the foundation.

I went to Belmont, and while it was a fabulous institution, I am now deeply in debt. From experience I can tell you that both universities are wonderful and are highly respected. What school you attended doesn't really matter as much as you might think...make good grades and gain experience whenever and wherever you can. Take it from me...don't go into great debt just for your résumé. It really isn't worth it!

Belmont has a great nursing program. Union has a high nclex pass rate. Both schools are good choices. Just dont choose lipscomb.
