Need some info on the Evening/Weekend program at Southwest Tennessee Community College.

How long is the program?

Can you transfer into the program?

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks.:idea::idea::idea::idea:

I am applying to Southwest's nursing program for the Fall of 2010. I have a 4.0 and have A&P I and II and Micro out of the way, but I'm taking the NLN in 1 week and I'm extremely nervous about it. I don't think I'll do so well on it because I didn't do good on the practice tests in my book and I don't really have the time to study for it. Does anyone know what my chances of getting in will be if I just barely score over 100?!

Hi Valerie, I think you have a great chance. I had a 3.89 GPA but I only scored a 115 on the NLN, I was so upset and sure that I would not get in. BUT I DID! I am in for Spring 2010! AND my essay was only 2 paragraphs long. I think what edged me out was the fact that I went and got my CNA certificate. It was the only thing I could see that made me stand out. Many that I talked to made like 150's on the NLN. I didnt even come close to that. Heres a Hint: Study Physics, Physics, and then throw in some Physics to be sure. The Math and English was easier than I thought and I stressed over them for nothing. Math is my weak subject but I did fine on the test with it. Good Luck to you! Jenn;)

Hi Jenn! I took it on Saturday, but I won't know how I did for 1-3 weeks. I really don't feel too good about it though. I'm gonna go ahead and focus more on trying to get into U of M since they let more in each semester. I think I'll have a much better chance of getting in there. Do you know anything about the TEAS test? I'm supposed to take it on the 21st. Here we go again...ERRR!

I dont have any experience with the TEAS test. It was all I could do to get thru the NLN. You may surprise yourself and do better than expected. I was shocked to see I even PASSED the NLN. Good Luck to you. Maybe post a note on here asking about the TEAS and see if anyone has any experience with it. Maybe they can give you some hints. Hang in there, Whne I got my acceptance call it was all worth it! :heartbeat

Hello everyone. If I am wanting to apply for the Southwest Tenn. Nursing program for Spring 2011, do I have to have all pre course work completed prior to submitting my application? For instance, I will not be able to take Microbiology until Fall 2010. I know the deadline is Oct. 15 for the Spring program. Does anyone know if they will consider me as an applicant while waiting on my Micro grade? Thanks!!

Thanks Jenn! And congrats on getting accepted! I know you're excited!:dncgbby:

Hey Nikki, I was in the same boat you are in. They would not consider me as an applicant untill I had all my precourse work in and a final grade. They use your final grade to measure your index score. If you still have not completed Micro by the October 15th deadline they will not consider you in the applicant pool. It sucks I know. I had to wait a whole year just to apply. maybe you can get them all taken if you take some in the summer sessions? What about online? One of my problems was getting into the classes. They were always full the minute registration opened up! I went to Mid South community college in west mphs because the demand for those classes (AP I & II, Mircro) were less and I got in with no problem at all. I hope this helps. Good Luck to you! Jenn

Hi Nikki! I'm not 100% sure, but I think you have to have the grade in before you can apply. I know that they let in the top 60 based on a point system- overall gpa x 1, A&P I x 4, A&P II x 4, Micro x 4, and NLN score x 10% so I would definately think that you would need to have your Micro grade before you applied, but you may want to ask somebody in the nursing dept. The phone number is 333-5425.

Sorry, I didn't see Jenn's reply until after I sent that! Just read hers!

Jenn Thanks for the reply! You said it best....this sucks!!! It's my own fault however b/c I have read so much information on this site on what to do and what NOT to do that I do know if I'm coming or going. I figured that would be the case but I was still hoping that a miracle would arise and I could still be in Micro and apply. So what did you do for the entire year that you waited? Where you worried that A&P and Micro would escape your memory?

I just finished my first semester at southwest and was wondering if any students already in the program have any tips to passing Adult health I. I am really nervous about Adult health I. What does adult health go over? is it ICU stuff, ER stuff? they didnt tell us. ANY info would be GREAT. Or any handme down notes!

It doesn't really work like that - ER, ICU. ADH1 builds on what you learned at the end of Foundations. For instance, you learned UTI's. In ADH1 you will study pyelonephritis, kidney stones, etc. Then, in ADH2 it goes even further in depth. Respiratory, cancer, diabetes, cardiac, GI/GU, blood administration, gallbladder/pancreas/liver. ADH1 was VERY drug heavy.
