Southwest Tennessee Community College- Scoring for Nursing Program Question

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Hello Everyone, I know gpa is factored into the decision of who will be in the program. For Southwest nursing are all college courses factored into the gpa (even those courses that have nothing to do with the nursing program) or are they only looking at gpa for the courses like psychology, nutrition, ap1, ap2, micro, engl comp 1, etc? I was told that ALL courses are factored in the gpa with nursing and I was also told the nursing dept is only looking at ap1, ap1, and micro.

Please clear this up for me please and thank you ;)

ALL courses are factored in

I wonder why someone in the nursing dept told me ONLY the science courses were factored in. I had a feeling that was incorrect. Thanks for clearing this up for me ;)

ALL courses are factored in

Are you in the Southwest nursing program ?

Yea I am in the program....I'm not sure why my last post shows my email address and not my user name

Kool. How long have you been in the program? Are you liking it so far?

You GPA will be calculated on the courses that apply toward your nursing degree. Your gen Ed courses (English comp, humanities, etc gen Ed core classes that you need for degree) plus nursing specifics such as Nutrition, psych, statistics, ap1, ap2, and micro. Don't worry. Your GPA holds the least amount of weight on your entry index score. You need to get A's in AP1&2, and micro, and pass the NLN with at least a 100. Focus on those, get all A's in them and you are 99% in.

Thanks for answering ! I'm working very hard to get where I need to be ;)

I just handed in my application last week. I am trying to get into the Spring of 2016 program at STCC. I know that proof of certain immunizations and a negative drug test are required for entry. Are those to be handed in with the application, or are they required after you are accepted?

Honestly I am not sure. You might want to start a new topic for the Spring of 2016 hopefuls, if there isn't one up already. That would be the best way to get information from others that are applying with you. ;)

I'm applying for the Fall 2016 semester at SWTCC. All of y'all's comments are very helpful.

Hi,

I've figured my index score to be 57, does this rate decently? I have no idea how they rate such things.
