MTSU or TSU nursing program...

U.S.A. Tennessee

Hey gang-

I have to choose between TSU or MTSU's nursing programs by July. I've basically been accepted "unoffically" into the their programs. The problem is I don't know which is the better fit. TSU is soooo much closer and I would save tons of money in gas if I went there. However, it kinda has a bad reputation from people I've talked to. MTSU on the other hand has an outstanding nursing facility, but the drive is soooooo far (how manys days is nursing school anyway?). They also require lots of paperwork- it's ridiculous! The pros of MTSU is I would start this spring semester. TSU I wouldn't get to start until next fall.

If you guys have any information about these schools or could give me some advice please let me know ASAP!

Thanks-

I don't have any firsthand info on either school. I'll be going to MTSU next semester. However, I was advised by a nursing school advisor, not to even apply at TSU. She said something to the effect of "apply to more than one school, to make sure you get in. Oh, but you don't want to go to TSU." The things she referred to weren't even totally academics. She alluded to a lot of crime on the campus and whatnot.

No, your counselor's misled...I will tell you firsthand that you need to be careful @ ANY school you attend. I've attended UTK, Ohio State, etc and crime is the same everywhere. I mainly attend the downtown campus & the nursing bldg. My classes are pretty much during the day anyway. You just have to smart wherever you go.

Agreed! From what I've heard, TSU is much safer than MTSU when it comes to security

Where did you hear that? Doesn't sound right. I think as @2012 said, you have to be careful at any school. I wouldn't take hearsay as correct for something like that. Check statistics or with the security department for each school. I have never felt unsafe at MTSU. Not to say that crime doesn't happen.

Well- looks like I'm going to BELMONT! The money is going to be outrageous, but it is the best fit for me afterall. Do you know what their point system is? Is a 90-100 considered an A?

Congrats and good luck!! Sorry, I don't know the grading scale at Belmont.

I would recommend MTSU over TSU, am currently attending TSU Nursing, it is very frustrating just to deal with the stuff, they can be a challenge sometimes, disorganized, mean and all.

@johnny depp23 Just realized you sent me a message & I can't figure out how to reply!? I have no idea why someone at MTSU would tell you that's the grading scale or the schedule.. that's weird. J. Kelly handles the online RN to BSN programs anyway. All our classes are 90-100 A, 82-89 B and 75-81 C. and we absolutely do not go M-F all day. We had M-W last semester (mostly half days - longer on your lab day), and it will be M, Tues & either W or Th this semester depending on what your clinical day is.

... after she told me that I was like... WTH lol.

That schedule and grading scale you just wrote sounds MUCH more appealing than Belmont's by far!
