Breckinridge School of Nursing Nashville

U.S.A. Tennessee

I am debating on going to Breckinridge School of Nursing. But the main thing that keeps weighing heavy on my mind is if they will get fully accredited from the NLNAC. Has any of the current students in the Nashville program seen them making any steps towards this? Is their site visit scheduled that you know of? Have their been any of the Breckinridge schools to get this accreditation? My mind keeps telling me to go here, but that keeps haunting me. I do not want to spend all of that money and not be able to find a job afterwards. I had a friend of mine that graduated from a school that was in the process of getting accredited and then she could not get hired by our hospital.

I am debating on attending Breckinridge School of Nursing. My heart keeps telling me to go there but my mind keeps telling me that they are not accredited by the NLNAC. Has any of the Nashville students seen them taking steps to get this accreditation? Do you know if they have had a site visit? When is the first graduating class of the nursing program? And I am aware that accreditation does matter bc I had a co-worker to graduate from a program that was in the process of getting accredited and our hospital would not hire her until they were accredited. Thank you for any information and not just bashing the school.

Why is your heart telling you to go to an unaccredited school? Are you simply looking to get in to a program quickly? Caveat emptor!

I almost went to Breckenridge because of the lure of starting immediately. But when you look at the cost and factor in that many students get their degrees withheld (not failure, so it doesn't drop their stats), and lack of accreditation, it just wasn't worth the gamble.

Think about it carefully: do you want to risk not being able to get licensed? Do you want to be stuck in your career path because your credits may not transfer later down the road? The cost of attending is more than most non-profit universities.

Don't rush in just because you can start now. Do your due diligence and research. Good luck! :)

Thank you for your response. The schedule and the way the curriculum set up are the main things that are attracting me. I do realize it will not be easy to complete any nursing program. I have been trying to get into a program for over a year now, without any luck or even getting on a wait list. I have researched it, but I keep getting promised by the staff that they are working on complete accreditation. The Breckinridge program does their clinicals at the hospital I work for. That seems like a small glimmer of hope that they will be able to get accredited bc not just any program can do clinicals in the hospitals. I cannot ask the students while I am at work bc I am afraid I may not get a true response due to them being in class and their professor overhearing. The only schools I may be able to get into are going to be private or a for profit school. So, the tuition is going to cost about the same and maybe even less. The local Breckinridge is providing a BSN program also. So, that is another reason I am looking into them.

It's listed as such:

Initial Approval – "Initial approval is granted a new school that has not been in operation long enough to graduate its first class but demonstrates its eligibility for full approval." Rules and Regulations of Registered Nurses, Chapter 1000-01-.05 (4) (a)

It seems pretty risky to me.

I'v never heard of this program and I'm from Nashville. I'd be very cautious. You don't want your hard work to be for nothing. Mtsu in Murfreesboro has a BSN program. I lived over an hour away while I was in the program, but the drive was worth it. It's an awesome & accredited program. I'm taking the NCLEX-RN soon.

BE CAREFUL!!! Do a search on here about these nursing programs... These are considered "ITT Technical Institute" programs. If you do your research on these programs you will find all of the hazards and lies that you are told by these schools for their nursing program. Tred cautiously and good luck.

Thank you! I am being very careful about my decision. I have not signed any papers or anything. When I went in and talked to them a few months ago, I came in prepared with questions and would not accept half answers. I will not even go any further than talking until I can get a date for their site visit from the accreditation board and be able to verify that they passed it. Their first graduation class is supposed to be in March, I think. I am also requesting the number of people that passed the N-CLEX and how many sat for it. If they cannot provide that information, then there is no need for me to talk to them. I just wanted feedback from current students.

Run... Run fast and Run Hard... I am currently a student and no they are not working on anything to get us accredited. They say it is not important and it is. The nursing chair is horrible the students hate her and she does nothing for us. Trust me when I say Run. I am 4 quarters in and don't have options to leave. Don't start don't go.. It is a big huge mess. Kaplan is suppose to be good check them out. Sorry you want the truth. There it is. They filled us full of lies and I don't want to see someone else get hooked like I did.
