Tele nurse with 10 yr experience looking for a job in Seattle area

Published

Moving away from Phoenix, thinking about Seattle. I heard it is a nice place to live. With 10 yr tele experience, do you think I can find a job there? I don't have a BSN yet. But I have PCCN certificate.

What is the hourly pay there? Any overtime opportunities in hospitals there? I have two small kids. Thank you for helps. Ken

By the way, do you like where you work?

Love where I work, but I'm not in Seattle. More the south sound, in a family oriented town.

You may have a bit more difficulty in Seattle proper wealth an ADN, because of the glut of BSN students graduating. Maybe try either north or south of Seattle. You can check union websites for pay.

Keep us posted!

I will try Northern Seattle area. Hopefully, I will land a job there. I just want to move out Phoenix area. 100+ degree is way too hot. Plus Seattle has better schools for kids. I heard it rains almost everyday in the winter there.

Well, actually it doesn't RAIN every day in Western Washington, but it can be over cast for weeks and drizzly for weeks on end, lol.

There are many good school districts in W. Washington. IMO, don't limit yourself to just N. Seattle unless you really want to live up that way. I'm not sure what the hiring rate is for ADN nurses North of Seattle, but I do know that ADN are more accepted in the South Sound.

Thank you for your reply. Where is South Sound? Not local, not sure which cities you mean.

North shore school district has a great reputation. Youcould google it and look at boundaries. Some find moving from such sunny places to here a bit challenging :) many of the hospitals are requiring adn's to get their bsn within 3-5 years of hiring. With all your experience not sure if same would hold for you.

South Sound would be considered Renton, Wa and south. So that would be Kent/Renton (Valley Medical, but magnet/bsn). Auburn- Auburn Regional Medical Center, Puyallup, Good Samaritan, Federal Way- St. Francis, Tacoma: St. Joseph, St. Claire, Tacoma General, Mary Bridge (kids), Madigan (military). Enumclaw- St. Elizabeth (critical access). Gig Harbor- St. Anthony.

All the Saints hire ADN and are NOT requiring a BSN in 5 years, etc.

I don't know about all hospitals, but a friend was looking toward Seattle and they required a BSN in 5 even though she has 10 yrs experience. I think it's just the push near Seattle. However, I do wonder if the N. Sound (Everett, etc) is the same? It would be interesting to know. Oh, and Swedish in Issaquah, but that's more Eastside.

Tokmom, Providence Everett also is requiring a BSN w/in 5 years of hire too. Ken, here is a link to the WA state nurses assn with a list of all the hospitals down at the bottom. You could google each hospitals nursing contract for the pay scales and benefits at each facility. Union - Washington State Nurses Association

Interesting, so is the BSN push creeping into the N. Sound then too? Strangely, it's not very strong in the S. Sound. I work for a very large organization in the S. Sound area and they have made NO mention of BSN in 2020. They have educational fairs and tuition reimbursement, but no pressure.

After reading Washington union contract, I noticed RNs in Seattle don't get paid well. Currently, my pay in Phoenix area is same as RNs in Seattle. Houses in Phoenix area are about 50% cheaper than Seattle. Plus, I get free medical insurance, pension plan and 403b. My Overtime is 1.75 times or more. I love Seattle. But I can't support my family there.
