TEAS exam preparation tips?!

Published

Hello everyone,

I am looking to study for the TEAS exam. I am currently taking prerequisite courses for ABSN programs. How did you study for the TEAS? Also, how did you make time for it with everything in life?

Just tell me everything and any tips you have. How did you study for this and do well?! Thanks ?

I personally used Mometrix's TEAS secrets book and then Youtube to review the science portion a bit more in-depth than the book can go.

The test is pretty much middle school/high school math (up to maybe algebra 1), high school reading, high school English, and A&P with a bit of biology and scientific reasoning.

I'd probably take a practice test and then use that to see where your weak areas are. Then, just go through a study guide, focusing more on those weak areas. Depending on how much time you have until you need to take it, you don't necessarily need to be spend lots of hours a week on it. I think I studied on and off for a month and a half, with only a few or so hours a week.

I agree with EmDash there are a lot of great ATI TEAS Study Guides on YouTube and study guide books for the exam. My first time taking the TEAS, I just wanted to get a feel for what was on the test. I saw what I lacked in knowledge and studied what was important for me to obtain a competitive score. I would definitely give yourself a month or two of study time to get the best score you can. You definitely don't want to try to cram the information before the test. It will only make you more anxious and tired. ?

I took the test first, without studying and scored actually pretty well... and i attribute that to taking it pretty much immediately after finishing anatomy and microbio. I applied with that score after opting out of the second TEAS date for money reasons.

Prior to opting out, I was studying with the ATI TEAS study guides. I was not happy with that resource only because there are a lot of errors in it, and it doesn't cover what you are likely lacking in knowledge.

What I did instead was take the topics out of the manual and do separate searches on them into YouTube and Khan Academy. I downloaded middle school and high school grammar worksheets and hammered those pesky little rules that we've all forgotten, into my head.

To get into the testing mode I downloaded the TEAS Pocketprep app and did questions whenever I felt like going on instagram... SO SILLY. I moved the app to where instagram normally sat on my phone, so when my muscle memory took me there it actually opened up test prep (muahaha). I would do 10 questions pretty much every time I moved locations. That pin pointed areas of weakness that I would then do the above with.

good luck!

Hey @NursingStudentakr,

I got the Mometrix TEAS Secrets and ATI Study Manual. I studied for at least 6 hours a week for a whole month (that’s like 1 hr per day or less) and whenever I had the free time. I deleted my social media apps temporarily and kept only 1 (it was instagram for me lol). I also planned my study schedule that way 2 days before the TEAS, I am no longer studying. I think it worked out well for me, I was aiming for at least 80% but I got 89.3%. Be sure to study for the Reading part too!! I scored 90s on everything else, but my Reading dragged my score down. Hope this helps. Best of luck ?

I did the practice assessment online.. it was costly, but very helpful.. I also watched youtube videos from the ATI people themselves.. focus on what you're best at and master it. That way if you fail another subject or make a lower than expected score you have your best subject to boost you up and save you.

In my case... my college only wants a 65.. they lowered it to a 61 because people were failing it and they did not have a good applicant pool.

I personally took 1-2 hours each day for about a month straight and looked over free practice questions online and purchased a book to help me with my worst subjects. I ended up making a 68% on the first try and turned it in since they said it was either pass or fail it did not matter who got the highest score (depends on what school you go to of course).

you should be ok!! GOOD LUCK!

I don’t know if you took your test yet but I passed it yesturday and was accepted into the ABSN program.

I studied for 2 straight weeks doing the subjects I was told. I downloaded 2 apps to help and did a TON of online practice test. I passed with a 75 in compression which is the most important score.

good luck!

Are we allowed to use calculators on the math section?

We’re not allowed to bring our own calculators. However, a calculator will be provided (depending on the question) by the TEAS exam once you’re already in the math part.

We get to use a calculator for all of the mathquestions or only specific ones?
