teas nursing pre-entrance exam

Students TEAS

Published

Hi, I'm new to the website. I am currently finishing my pre-requisites for the nursing program at Northern Virginia Community College, and I will be taking the teas exam in about a month. My school requires that you pass with at least a 78% in each section to apply for the nursing program. We are also only allowed to take the teas test 3 times ever with thirty days between each try, meaning if we don't get a 78% or above on all sections we will never be able to go to nursing school at NVCC. I have read about other programs around Va that use the teas as only a part of their admission process and do not require a certain score in order to apply. I am a bit worried, as I don't know exactly what to expect. I purchased the study manual but I have heard that the manual is not comparable to the actual teas test. I can only take the test once because the program that I hope to get in to starts during the summer (I will not have thirty days to re-test before applying.) If I get less than a 78% on each section I will have to apply for the program that starts in the fall. I'm just wondering if anyone could share their experience with the teas pre-entrance exam, especially the mathematics and science sections. Thanks so much.

I just took the TEAS this morning and did well. If you have the money, I would suggest paying the $30 to take the online practice test. I basically took a practice test without studying, to see where I needed the most improvement, then I really focused on those areas. I thought the study guide was comparable to the test, which the exception of science. The book did not cover much of that, so I used the Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam book, which I found helpful. The math, reading and English were all covered well though. You can do it!

I've never heard of a pre-nursing test, so I'm not familiar with it. All I can say is I'm glad my school doesn't require it, lol! Good luck to you!!

I took the TEAS back in September. I would say the ATI Study Manual is extremely similar to the actual test, except for the Science portion. I really found this part difficult to study for, as it covers an extremely broad amount of science material (reading graphs to earth science to a specific physiology thing like a disease.) The science section is more like you either know it or you don't...I don't even know what I would suggest to study for it. The other sections are very comparable though and the ATI book prepared me well. As VictoriaM said, I would pay to take the practice test online.

Hope this helps! And good luck!

I took the Teas earlier this month, and it really isn't that difficult, so don't get too worried about it. It tests essential academic skills. So these are basic concepts you should have already learned. I recommend taking the practice test on-line since it is exactly like the real test. Most people have difficulty during the math portion of the test. They don't pay attention to the clock and run out of time. I hope this helps

it's not that difficult if you study. It's very similar to the ACT that you take in high school and everything is high school level.

I found the practice test pretty simple and the part that killed me was Science. Everything else I scored 92 or above in.

I agree that most is stuff you should already know, but some of the physics and chem on there is ridiculous. I took Chem/Phys in high school and we never learned some of the stuff that is on the practice questions. I had to have my bf go over some of the practice manual to explain the chemistry and physics.

hi talia,

im simi. i am also a nvcc student. i have applied to the nvcc's online nursing program for summer 09. i dont think u have to take the TEAS. I just took the HESI entrance exam for nvcc's program. They changed the exam just recently. if you are required to take the teas exam, i have the teas study manual which i havent used at all. i also have the hesi book but that has some writing in it.. if u need n e one of them, just let me know. i live in loudoun county so i can probably just mail them to u or give them in person depending on whether u need them or not. n e way, i just took the TEAS EXAM today and i scored 91st percentile both national and program. it was very basic math and reading/language arts; science sucked like a cow. i still managed to guess on the science and ended up getting 83% lol...i have to admit that i did take the online practice test on the ATI website (only one of them though). i think that may have been a refresher for me. well keep us all updated about how u do...

I took my teas test last month. It wasn't too bad, but it is long, so try not to get stressed out while taking it. I studied with the ATI testing practice book and would also recommend the ATI online practice test. It really helped me understand the wording of what was on the test, especially the english/grammar section. The science section on the test seemed easier than what was in the practice book, but every test has different questions. Look over the chemisty elements table, and protons, neutrons, electrons. I had a temperature question on my test where I had to convert C to F. It's easy enough if you know the conversion, but that wasn't in any practice book I had. Also, make sure you keep track of how much time is left while doing the math section. I almost ran out of time. The test gives you about a minute for each math question and I think there were 55 questions. Study, study, study and you'll do great!

Afternoon everyone, I am scheduled to take the TEAS on March 25th. I purchased the Review Guide for LPN Pre-Entrance Exam book last year and it has been helpful but I was wondering if anyone knows if this book is similar to the TEAS practice manual? Also, if there's anyone who wouldn't mind sharing material with me I'd greatly appreciate it. I am currently unemployed and I do not have the funds to purchase the practice manual. I live in Hollywood, FL and am willing to make coopies of certain sections of the manual if anyone has it. Please, please, let me know. Thank you! :heartbeat
