TCC - questions about first semester

Published

Well, after looking over my acceptance packet today, I have come up with so many questions. I was wondering if anybody can tell me what the first semester of the nursing program is like. What is a typical day or week like for you?

Also, the packet mentions several books that we need. Did most of you order them online or get them from the bookstore. I would like to try and find them online since I don't get financial aid, but someone said that some of the nursing books come with software and that you have to buy the book from the bookstore in order to be able to use it. Which books are okay to buy online and which ones need to be purchased at the TCC bookstore?

Finally, what is in the nurse pak? :lol2:

I know I have a lot of questions, but I'm just so excited. Thanks.

ok, i'll answer as many of these as possible, though i am sure they will go over a lot of this at orientation/camp success. ;)

a typical week... m/w theory 10am-11:50am; then off to the hospital to pick my patient for the next day, then home to work on my paperwork for the next day.

t/th clinical from 6:45-12:45, and on tuesdays, skills class from 2-5pm.

i try to get all of my reading for the following week done on friday/sat/sun. we usually meet 2-3 times a week to practice skills for our check offs.

i got some of my books (taber's, drug book, care plan book, med surg book, etc online or at bookstores, etc) there are a few books that you must buy at the tcc bookstore for the online component, well actually you could buy them elsewhere, but the online component is another $50, so its quite pricey to do it that way. jarvis and elkin perry potter have the online component.

the nurse pak is a bunch of supplies you have to have for skills lab and practice of skills for checkoffs, etc.

anything else?

=) hope to have helped!!!!

Thanks for answering all of my questions. I know they will go over everything during orientation, but I'm just curious and getting ahead of myself. Thanks for the heads up on the books. I would like to shop around so that I can get them as cheap as possible. Thanks for all of the info. I'm excited about starting.:lol2:

Hi. I just started nursing school in January. Like you I had a million questions. I hope that you find it very rewarding. It is a bit stressful and at times I wonder when I will sleep again. Lots of studying and tests. We are doing clinicals and that is so much fun. To have hands on experience. We are into Pharmacology now with dosage and learning the meds. Wish me luck. And good luck to you.

Thanks for the support. I'm glad that you are enjoying school even though you are working really hard. It sounds like you have been really busy since January. Good luck with your studies!
