Does anybody know if you receive "bonus points" in admissions eyes for completing pharmacology, pathophysiology and concepts?
I have completed all of these and I did the cornerstone program at TCC (an honors associate degree plan) I would just like to knwo if any of that is taken into consideration :wink2:
well stacygirl I can't wait to see you as a fellow student at orientation- bc we WILL get in I decided! With all the scary posts on this site it can be daunting and hard to keep focused on our strengths and accomplishments when all we want to focus on is our weaknesses.
I personally want to say good luck to all you guys and gals out there applying!
Kudos on your positivity! I agree, sometimes you can get easily discouraged reading some posts. As long as we all keep support for each other, we will and CAN do it! Good luck to all of you, we will get there one day! :redbeathe
Hi there.
I'm starting the nursing program this Fall 08. I'm very excited and nervous.
Let me say this:
Although you no longer get bonus points for Pharm., patho and medical term it will do NO HARM to you to have these courses under your wing. In fact, I highly suggest taking these courses if you are between application periods or finished with your pre-reqs. I have taken all 3 of these classes and feel very at ease w/ already having a knowledge of the material...AKA...when the material is tought in nursing school it won't be the first time I'm hearing/learning the information, therefore....I think it will benefit me.
Learning is a lifetime process. If you can, enroll in these courses!!
Best of luck to all future applicants!
Thanks I am currently taking patho and pharm right now and I have a B in both. I already took concepts too.. w a B as well lol. I realized like you they can only help me even if I don't get the "bonus" points.
But good news! I spoke w Ms. Mitchell yesterday and she said I have a very impressive transcript so we'll see
Hopefully I'll be seeing you in the halls come the spring! And best of luck to you!
Hey guys! Congrats to those who will be joining the Fall 08 students! I just completed my first semester of the TCC nursing program!!! Hooray! I didn't think I would make it through, but I did! I will be starting in July with Mental Health. Anyway, my advice to you all is to study ALOT! The tests are all in the NCLEX style and for me that was the hardest part. I have always been a memorizer through school and made straight A's. That did not serve me well in this program. Alot of the test questions have 4 right answers and you have to choose the MOST correct answer. So that style of questioning was not what I was used to. Also, in the first few weeks you may feel VERY overwhelmed as I did, but don't give up! Hang in there you will adjust even though it may feel like you won't. Just take it one day at a time. It's alot of new information and lingo coming to you at once, just hang in there and you can make it. If anyone has any questions for me feel free to ask!
Congrats! See you around campus in the Fall!
The mental health session is a 6 week session in the summer of your first year. The students who are admitted into the fall program have mental health in the first part of the summer during Summer 1 session which starts May 27. The students who were admitted during the Spring semester take it during Summer 2 which starts July 7. As I mentioned it is a 6 week class so it's extremely fast paced. We have clinicals 2 days per week from 8:30am to 4pm either Monday/Tuesday or Wednesday/Thursday. Then campus lecture on the other 2 days that you aren't in clinical from 8 - 12pm. They do offer an online lecture for 25 students but you have to sign up and the list fills up fast. They usually post that on the foundations board the last couple weeks of the semester. I am taking the online theory class so I only have to go in for clinicals on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It will be nice only having the 2 days during the summer. So hopefully that answers all your ?'s
If I can be of any more help let me know!
Depending on the number of applicants, which is usually alot, this much is a fact. All pre-reqs need to be finished before you apply. If you are still in the class when you apply, the class is not counted. For example, if you are in Micro in the fall, and apply in the fall for Spring, the Micro class does not count, and you will not get in. It is a must to have an A in General/Organic Chem, and A&P I, and II, and you can get in with a B in Micro. The first three are a must due to the competition, so if you don't have A's in those three and at least a B in Micro, take them over before you apply. Students who have all the other reqs. completed will have a better chance of getting in than those who don't. I have known people who had everything except P.E. with all A's and did not get in because of that 1 credit P.E. class. Also, starting this Fall, with applications for Spring Entry, all applicants must have College Algebra completed in order to apply. The grade must be at least a C. The C 2.0 gpa will not count against your gpa for admissions, but it must be checked off as completed. This is a new policy at TCC. I have known folks who got in with a TEAS score of 72, with higher grades in the sciences and math portions, as they weigh heavier for selection. Brush up on your high school and middle school science, "General, Life, Planets, Plants, etc" as those are on the test. The TEAS exam study guide sold in the book store is useless, save your money. A&P - avoid all NE Campus profs. Adams, Fugere, and Pulse at SE are the best and give the best grades. Either Mathaii or Lawson at NE are good for Micro. Duane Schluter at NE or Dollar at one of the campus', don't remember which one are great for Chemistry. Avoid Jacaruso for A&P at all costs. She starts with 42 students and by the end, has about 7 left with C's.
I am starting the TCC program this fall 2008 after retaking all my science courses, last several semesters. After 27 years of nursing via LVN, I am finally on my way to the RN program, I cannot wait!!!!!Looking for other TCC Fall '08 nursing students.....:typing
good luck to all this year!
Hi, I will be starting in the Fall 2008 Nursing program at TCC as well! I'm sure I will run into you sometime! Good luck with all your studies. :nuke:

This is totally not true at all. I had Bs in both A&Ps and in Chemistry and an A in Micro and I got in just fine. In fact my final GPA was only a 3.5 I believe. Granted, I did extremely well on the TEAS, but they're all looked at when you apply. Please don't think that if you got a B in a science class that you need to take it over before you even apply. You might be surprised.
