Taking NCLEX PN on Friday the 13th

Hey, the way my luck goes, it's usually my luckiest day of the year.

I have been studying steadily for about a month, and doing 100+ questions per day, sometimes 200, looking over the rationales for what I get wrong, and even some I get right, especially when I've gone with my gut and dont know exactly why I picked the right answer.

I have a simple Q&A book, and I get most of those right as I walk my neighborhood reading through them. People think I'm weird, walking around with my head in a book, but sitting here is and drilling my brain is tough. So when I have to sit and answer questions I do so using the Saunders CD that came with the Comprehensive book. I managed to get 72, 74, 77, 78 or so on the last few exams in all content mode, a 74 in knowledge mode (better than the 60's I was getting before I really started scrutinizing all four answers before picking one). When I do a 10 question quiz, I'm in the 80's most of the time.

I had Kaplan's Qbank, but didn't like the format at all. Only got 60's on that.

So what do you think? Think I'm ready for the NCLEX PN Friday? I really really want to take the day off from studying tomorrow, rest my brain, relax, but I always think I'm not prepared enough and sit through more and more questions (did the same thing when in school). There's lots of things I cant seem to commit to memory, especially labs and meds. If I cant remember the specifics I usually approach those questions by thinking about the physiology of the situation and category and go from there, and most of the time that helps. I'm burnt out I think, and pushing more questions through my head the day before might not help.

Hey there. Your scores are pretty good. Even in Kaplan- 60's are great! And the questions from Kaplan are really similar to the real exam...except Kaplan is harder. The way I studied the medications was just studying classifications and their side effects instead of studying individual meds. Good luck on your upcoming exam!

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm feeling pretty stressed out right about now. Thinking I ought to be studying even more, not watching TV.

I'm so tense. I must remember to breathe.

Now I'm wondering. If I take the NCLEX on a Friday, does the two-day tentative results thing still work? It'll be a weekend, after all. Would I know on Monday?

One step at a time, huh? Gotta take the thing first.

Deep breaths.

Did I study enough? Is 70's on Saunders tests enough? Yikes.

Since you're taking a test on a friday, you will be able to know on sunday. Pearson posts results every day so you'll be able to know then. Good luck again! :)

Well, I got there at 1:45 for a 3PM test appointment (never can tell how traffic through NYC's five boros will be, so I left way early). They were happy to let me in to sit for the NCLEX PN early. So I did.

Got some priority questions, lots of med questions, not a single calculation. Mostly side effects. A couple of select all that apply. No "put these in order" questions. No put the x on the spot questions. There were plenty I was not sure of. Did my best to try to put the physiology into it and think critically. It's all a blur. It seemed to go so fast, but there were some questions I seemed to know right away, and some I got hung up on and felt like I had to guess. It's like my skills of looking for distractors and trying to decide whether an answer was true or false or not as true as others just couldnt help on some of the questions. Did the best I could, and the test ended at 85 questions after about an hour and a half. I mean, I probably sat for it at two or so, and was outside calling my wife at four. It was the fastest slow thing I've ever done. I'm so glad it's over! Now I know what I'm in for when go for my RN. Good to know.

As for finding out my results, the staff at the Pearson testing center tell me that because today's Friday, I'll have to wait until until two more business days, so maybe Tuesday after 4PM or Wednesday morning. That's what they tell me. Pearson does not charge you if the info is not there, so I'll check Monday morning for the heck of it. I'm tempted to check now, but considering I finished 4PM today, I doubt it'll be there.

So, 85. I either did really poorly, or I passed. I came home and looked up some things I was uncertain about and if I remember the answer I chose, I got them right. It's such a blur. It was like that in school too. As I made my way through the program, I would leave tests thinking I had no idea how I did and that I must have failed. I'd get into a zone and not remember much of the test. But I never failed a test (and they were much like the NCLEX - often worse). So, if my track record means anything, I passed. I'm not gonna bank on it though. I'll believe it when I see it.

Sure, we've got the quick results here. The staff at the testing center and the handout they gave me say two business days. I'll check the web on Sunday then just in case.
