Swan Interpretation with Impella

Published

Hello!

Help an ER nurse out please!

How do I interpret swan measurements with an Impella device in place?

Let's use the Impella CP at P-8, which gives flows of 3.3-3.1 I believe.

The CI/CO is low from what "normal" readings should be. This is because the device is taking over the work of the left ventricle. So low CI/CO is not an issue as long as the device is functioning without issues correct?

Titrations are done based on MAP, because this is a continuous flow device, correct?

What abnormal readings should I be concerned about with swan monitoring and the Impella?

Thank you all for the help!
