What happens if you put mesalt in a CLEAN wound? Is that the cause of the pain?
I have a low drainage wound and it is clean. They gave me mesalt because hydrogel they said may be causing the good skin to turn white. My husband put it in and now I'm scared I'll suffer. Wondering if I should take it out of the surgical wound? I have low drainage also. So what happens if you use mesalt on a clean wound? Thanks. Lynne ..wound is on butt and it's hard to sit. Well I can't. Thanks.

I'm only a patient but regarding that poor man screaming....why not tal to the doctor? There are hundreds of dressings to use. Why be in pain? Also besides hydrogel is there another wetting agent for me? back to him...what about silver alginate? Please don
t keep making this man suffer....talk to the doctor please. How awfuol to be in such pain on top of having the awful wound. Best of luck. Lynne
+I was on wound vac 2 wks after surgery and surgeon took me off of it. He also said last week i'd be healed in 10 days. Wound doc yesterday said 6 weeks. She said use mesalt as hydrogel was causing white skin and rash on good skin. So far only a small bit of stinging. What do they use on shallow wounds? It's about 1/2 inch deep, 5 inches long but less deep on lower part of wound. So if it's too shallow for hydrogel and mesalt doesn't work so well...what do they use? This goes on and on and I'm risking infection. I've lost my job over this too for being off so long. Mentally this is so hard. Being in the crack of buttocks makes it impossible to sit. Risking infection in the area although I'm very clean. This has to heal faster. I appreciate any advise or suggestions I can take to the doc. I won't reveal where I got info if that's a concern. I just want to heal. The main doc I see tomorrow or next day is open to suggestions. He's very nice. Unlike some others he wants me to heal and be happy with treatment. I wish I'd gone to another type of surgeon who would sew it up. This 'natural' closing takes forever and risk of infection is greater. This is not my idea of good medicine. The only reason I see it as an advantage is prior surgery gave me alot of fluid that also caused a hardnesss which hurt as much as the initial tumor and I couldn't sit..having to have second surgery to clear out scar tissue and fluid. Thanks for listening to me complain...I know I speak for alot of people. We appreciate any suggestions of healing you may have experience of. Thank you so much. Lynne
I'm healing from a surgical wound. I haven't been able to use alginates or mesaqlt. Hydrogel isn't healing it fast enough. It's about .2 inches deep and about 4 inches long. It's hard because it's in the crack of buttocks. Hard to heal. The doc finally decided to try silvadine cream. I used this once when I had stitches but on an open wound? Has anyone heard of this? With what results if so? Odd that I have read/seen so many dressing types all over the internet but not silvadine cream. He will try whatever I ask as he's just trying to help me find something to get this healed. Gotta give him that. But I'm concerned since I haven't heard of this. Advise is to cover with dry gauze and change twice a day. And to put it on a dimes' width...just a small amount. Any words on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Lynne
May a patient ask about silvadene also please?

Medihoney!
About MEDIHONEY™ Dressings
p.s. wound is low draining...a tiny bit of green/yellow mixed with a bit of blood/red and brown. Not much though. Too dry for most dressings. Hydrogel made skin white on good skin around wound...also small rash. So we wanted to do something to keep it from drying and kill any bacteria. Temp is 99.1. mmm also wondering how we will tell when we change bandage if it's infected as salve/cream is white. I guess we'll see. This is so scary. I so appreciate any words you may offer. Thanks. Lynne
Thanks! Still on the silver cream for now. If it doesn't work I'll ask doc about medihoney. Thank you. Lynne

My DH gets vascular sores, and his MD always has us use a thin layer of Silvadene and cover with gauze BID.
My wound is about 3/10 inch deep and about 4 inches long...1/2 inch wide. I assume silvadene (sp?) cream is ok then if I don't hear otherwise. Thanks for answeringl Lynne

Lynne, I am sorry your having difficulties with your wound but unfortunately it is inappropriate for any of our members to offer you medical advice. You should discuss your health needs and wound management with your heathcare provider and wound care nurse. It would be wise for you to also seek help from a dietician as diet plays a large part in wound healing.
