SUNY Downstate ABSN 2021-2022

Published

Hi everyone,

I've started this thread so we can discuss and share our experiences applying to SUNY's ABSN program for 2021. Being that the application period just opened, I’m sure we can all benefit from sharing information in regards to the process.

Best of luck to those applying!

Congratulations on your orientation day and the beginning of the classes guys! Just out of curiosity, are the classes going to be online or in-person?

Thank you!

Classes will be online for the first semester,  we don't know about other semesters for now.

Hi everyone

I am planning to apply to SUNY Downstate for ABSN program but I had some questions regarding my application status so I wanted to talk to someone that works in the ABSN program. Does anyone know the email address of any advisor or person in charge for the ABSN program that could help me?

Admissions office deals with all applications.  You can try emailing them at [email protected]  .

Other option would be registering for infosession in December and ask for an advice. Use the link below to register:

Good luck ?

Hi everyone ! I was recently accepted  to stony brooks accelerated program which is the same cost as downstate I believe, however it’s a 12 month program that starts in June.
I wanted to know what you guys think of downstate so far? I know some former students said they’re a bit disorganized, would you agree or disagree? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated because I actually live in the city so downstate is much closer to me, stony would require me to relocate. However I also haven’t taken the TEAS yet and I’m a bit nervous because I didn’t do well on my practice ATI test.

Congrats on your acceptance! This is a tough decision... Downstate is super disorganized, but the solidarity of the cohort helps you sort it out and get through it. From what I hear, lots of nursing schools are similarly chaotic (though I know nothing about Stony Brook). So far, there's little commuting to the school (mostly online learning, except for Sim labs). Most of your commuting will be to your clinical sites each week.

I'll say this: Downstate's program is 15 months and intense. Can't imagine what 12 months would look like.

Sorry I don't have more insights for you. Definitely talk to current Stony Brook students and see what's going on over there. Consider taking the TEAS no matter what and just see how it goes. Downstate looks at the entire application and especially your essay, not just your TEAS score. Keep in mind too that if you apply to Downstate this Fall, you probably won't hear a peep from admissions until the Spring of 2023...

Best of luck!

This might be a long shot, but is anyone applying that falls below the 3.0 GPA requirement? I am debating if I should or not I fit all the other requirements but my undergrad GPA is still haunting me LOL.

What is your GPA? How is CMSV?
I’m interested in this college & nervous about my GPA

hi everyone, I got excepted into fall 2024 ABSN for anyone who's been in the program can you tell me when do they do a drug test? I know there's one before we start the program.
