Hi All,
I wanted to create this new topic for SUNY Brockport Second degree BSN nursing program for the cohort of Summer 2024. I submitted my application 09/06 but my ABSN Professional statement on 09/29 and ABSN secondary application on 09/28. Based on previous thread which there aren't many for this school, most people got a response for the cohort 2017 in December. Wishing all of us good luck to get in, I am super anxious and hope I get in as this is the school I really want to get into. I currently live in NYC, Brooklyn to be specific.
If anyone is currently in the program and want to share their experience, please do so, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Sasou17,
Thanks for starting this thread. Acceptance letters went out this past Friday, did you get into the program? I hope so.
I'm interested in hearing from other students that were accepted, I'm interested in what a typical schedule will look like for the first and second semester.
Best of luck to you! I'm happy to share my experience, prep etc here if anyone has questions
Thanks

Hi,
Of course NP. Yes, I did received an email and was accepted, about you?
I hope more people join this thread. ? Is Suny brockport the only school you applied to? I feel like I will have to review my A&P prior to the start of the program and also check some YouTube videos/flashcards about pharmacology n other subject we will have so I can have an idea and familiarize myself. I am nervous but excited.

Hello,
Congratulations! I just received my acceptance letter this Friday as well. I currently live in Brooklyn, NYC as well. Do you have an idea as to your housing situation?

Yes, was accepted and plan to attend. Me too, I would like to connect with as many students as possible in our class prior to starting.
I applied to UofR, UB, Utica and Suny BP. Still waiting on UB's decision however Brockport was my first choice due to the ICU rotation and the 15 vs 12 month format, as I have kiddos.
I'll be keeping my A&P notes close by in nursing school that is for sure! Prior to starting I'm going to prep for NCLEX testing style, to get familiar with NCLEX questioning style as every test we take at SUNY BP will be in this format from day one. I'll probably grab my BLS,ACLS and PALS before as I have a 5 month window prior to starting where I have no school or work.
I live 30 mins away so I will commute, are you looking at places to live now?
Any idea when the semester starts for us in the Summer?
Thanks!
Hi Ola B,
Awesome! Congrats to you as well! I'm commuting from about an half hour away, have you found housing yet? If your from NYC, let me know if you need anything that I could check up on for you locally. Like an apartment or area of town, happy to give my thoughts.
Hello Sasou,
I currently live in Flatbush and I am considering housing as well or dorming because I don't think I will be working while completing this program. So, I want to come out there and figure out the rent money and things like that.
Hi Buffalo,
Thank you so much for that idea. I am considering an apartment if it is affordable, however I won't be working during the duration of the program. It would be nice to find an apartment that's near the school, near supermarket and things like that. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any towns that you would recommend? I would hope rent is more affordable there than in NYC. I am looking to get a place that is near school so that commuting isn't as bad.
Would you guys want me to set up a facebook page (if you do have one) so we can communicate more easier that way rather than this forum?

I applied to your too but was accepted for the Spring and even got their scholarship (where you work for them for 3 years) but I decline acceptance since I accidently applied to their Spring cohort but wanted the Fall. I was only able to defer acceptance to the Summer but would have to reapply for scholarship and would have to pay their 1,000 deposit. I asked them to transfer my application to the fall and decline the Spring acceptance as I did not want to pay 1000 then I don't end up going there. But as you mention the 15 months to 12 months and the tuition played a huge role for me. So Brockport is definitely where I wanted to go.
The semester starts May 28th, it was in the email the director sent. Plus there is a mandatory orientation on May 20th.
Can you please share any of those NCLEX questions or website you plan on using? I will put a file together with links of people I researched about who go in details about certain subjects that we will have during the semester and so on.
I need to get my BLS too so I will use those 5 months to get anything I need or go over things I need to review.

I am planning on going out there as well and figure this out too. I won't be working as well so saving money is the goal.

Impressive! U of R is a great school and the scholarship program is the first of its kind, I would have tried like you to transfer if at all possible. But, I think you'll be glad you chose Brockport instead.
Found that in the letter after I asked, moving too fast!
I plan on using Nursing.com for NCLEX, Quizlet for the nursing classes and Picmonic as needed. I don't think it will be terribly hard, plus they have a nursing tutor I read... I do feel as if YouTube will be our best friend as well.
Cool, set up a Google drive file we can use over the term of the degree perhaps..
