Suggestions for Pre-reqs at ACC Austin

Published

Hi - I am currently doing my pre-requisites at the Austin CC, TX. Planning to apply for the program in for the program in Fall 2010. Long way to go. But, I wanted to get some advice on the order in which I need to take these prereqs. I have completed Physchology 2301 and Mathematics 1332. Just gave my assesment in Biology and will be giving Chemistry assessment in couple of weeks.

My question was on the following courses:

  • BIOL-2304/2101-Human Anatomy Lecture and Lab
  • BIOL-24201-Intro to Microbiology
  • BIOL-2305/21021-Human Physiology Lecture and Lab
  • HPRS-2300-Pharmacology for Health Professions

I was planning to take both 2304 and 2305. DO u think is it a good idea. I defenitely do not want to compromise on the grades. I do not work and I am fulltime into this. I know these are key subjects. Can we manage both at the same time.

Really appreciate your feedback and advice. Thanks.

I graduated ACC in 2005 (1st Fastrack class) and took micro in my 1st semester, and A&P1 in another and A&P2 in the 3rd...that was before they separated anatomy and physiology into 2 classes. It still works out to be 2, but they taught A&P togeher. I don't know if there is still the huge waiting list there was when I applied, but the better the grades the better the points toward the list. I had a 3.9 GPA because I took only 3 classes a semester - only one being a science at a time. When I started, all I had was English comp1...all the rest I had to take. I started Aug 2002 (I believe) with my pre-requs and was accepted and started the 15 month fastrack program in Aug 2004.

Also if you maintian a high GPA, you will have a better chance to get into the online classes (if they still offer them). If you are disciplined enough to have a high GPA, you will do well with the online classes.

Since ACC has separated out the Anatomy from the Physiology, you don't have the option of taking them both at the same time; the Anatomy is itself a pre-req to take the Physiology (and I believe all the other science pre-reqs, for that matter). So take your Anatomy asap (along with a couple of non-science co-reqs), then you can map out your other sciences. If you can take A&P at Cypress Creek, Carl Christensen is great. Good luck!

Thank you for your suggestions.

I am currently taking pre reqs at ACC and I just wanted to give a Prof rec for Anatomy, I just completed a 5.5 week Summer course and feel so lucky to have taken this Professor. Dr. Juarez De Ku is the best prof I have had in 5 years of college courses (I am returning for a MSN). And feel free to PM me if you would like any other Prof advice for ACC.
