Suggestions for online org chem or biochem?

Published

My admission to UNE is contingent on my passing an undergrad 3-credit organic chem or biochem course before the program begins. I don't have to take a lab. I did take this before, of course, but it has now been 6 years and I think the cutoff for science courses is 5. I'm looking for an online course, which has been OK'd by the school, since this will be for the summer semester and we'll be moving to our new home two states away. UNE offers one, but I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a more affordable online course? There must be community colleges or state schools that offer them.

I don't remember enjoying organic chem much, but the memorization required will probably be good practice for CRNA school. :p

I took an online course through Weber State University. Its actually 5 credits and is entitled Elementary Organic Chem/Biochem. You should check it out. It is a little pricey though, around 800 bucks. But its a good class and with a little work I got an A-. Check it out on the website http://www.weber.edu.

Hope this helps,

I am currently taking a Biochemistry class online from Berkley University. It is called Biochemistry X105. There are 11 lessons and comprehesive final. Not that bad of a class. I am about to take the final in the next couple of weeks.

Here is a college I know is discussed often on the Distance Learning board, that offers a Organic/Bio Chem course (4 credits). The tuition is reasonable at $136.38 a credit hour.

There are other online science courses listed on the following thread.

Hope this is helpful.

Cheri, thank you, I didn't even realize there was a forum specifically for distance learning! Thanks to preCRNA and DSAC also.

I also took the chem class at Weber State online, I actually took two classes, I was glad I found them and I know several other people currently enrolled.

How hard is it to take Biochem online, or any chemistry online for that matter. I know that I usually have trouble understanding something and need to go to the teacher for help. I know organic chem is a lot of memorize though, but I have never learned anything about biochem so I was just wondering. I am going to take biochem within the next couple of years and if I can take it online that would be great, depending on how hard it might be! Thanks :)

I also reccommend Weber State. I found the course relatively easy. If you have some time one weekend, you can get ahead on your assignments, and forget about the class for a while until an exam comes up. The woman in charge of getting you set up for the online program is very helpful and will waive your prereqs for you if you tell her you took chem in nursing school. Good luck!

Hi,

Kansas City Kansas Community College had an online Chemistry class available last semester. I did not take it because it did not have a lab so it would not have counted towards my degree but it sounds like exactly what you need.
