Success Story

Published

Hello All! I am excited to be able to write this post as I have read so many discouraging stories about those in my area DFW (which is super saturated) not being able to find jobs and I hope this might encourage some of you.

I used to stalk this site because I have always been told how hard it is to get a job, especially for me in an ADN program. I have all odds against me. I am a female, don't speak another language, in an ADN program with no hospital experience. This is an equation for disaster. I am so proud to report I officially accepted a RN position with one of the major hospital groups in my area! It was actually the first job I applied and interviewed for which I know is probably the exception but still.

My advice:

  • Apply, apply, apply. I applied to every position this hospital had open within the network for residencies and actually had 4 interviews set up prior to accepting the position.
  • While in clinicals (for those of you looking early like I did) SHINE! Offer to help, never sit at the desk doing paperwork without explaining why you are doing it first and even then be attentive to what is going on around you. Take every opportunity to speak with the floor managers, charge nurse, supervisors even if it is just small talk. They will remember you!
  • Write a really good cover letter. Google has a ton of examples. My nurse manager told me my cover letter plus previous clinical experience at the hospital is why I was pulled for the interview.
  • Don't get discouraged and think outside of the box. Don't rule out any floors and be open to schedules.

I wish everyone the best of luck. I know it is tough but it is not impossible! You can get interviews if you show out in clinical and stay on top of positions. Best of luck to you all!

Congrats, what a wonderful accomplishment!!

I am finishing my RN-BSN program in December & hope to have a job soon. I too live in the DFW area. I would have to agree that the market is saturated. :speechless:

Fingers crossed!!!
