we had a graduation in our hospital not too long ago on the oncology unit. a woman dying of breast CA's last wish was really to see her daughter graduate high school, but unfortunately her prognosis did not allow. so the nursing staff on that unit called the prinicpal of the school and they had a mini graduation ceremony for the daughter in the hospital room a few months early of when she was supposed to graduate. cap and gown, balloons, teachers, principal, her friends, and the whole family.... don't remember their being a dry eye in the hospital that day, everyone heard about it and made a trip upstairs to the "graduation party" the hospital threw with cake and barbeque. the mom ended up passing just a few days afterwards.
makes you realize why we do this, when sometimes it's so hard to.
