Ok. so I am going into my last year of nursing school (Bsn) but am currently taking Organic chemistry as a pre-req for a CRNA program. The last chemistry class I took was about 2 years ago as a pre-req for nursing! We have not had our first real lecture yet (just intro to the class, syllabus, etc.) but after trying to get through the first chapter, my head is spinning! Anyone else feel like this while they took o-chem? Anyone know any good supplemental websites? Any help will be greatly appreciated! :bowingpur

are you taking it over summer? that is probably not a good idea for a regular organic course. introductory organic chem might doable over summer, but not the real organic chemistry. take it over a semester

Yes, Im taking it over the summer. And its a bit too late to back out, we've already started. :) Any other advice?? LOL

Good luck with that! Try "Organic Chemistry as a Second Language" by David Klein. This book is a life saver!!

how many semester hours is it? does it include lab?? just make sure you are able to differentiate between the reaction mechanisms when you get to them. Also Solomons organic chemistry (9th edition) or Carey Organic Chem (6th Edition) are great Readable books for the full year course good luck!

Yeah, "Good luck" is right. We have our first test on tuesday.....pray for me. But the class is 3 hrs with the lecture being 1 hr so 4 hrs in total. A typical science course.

how did your test go?

Not so great. The good news is we get to drop the lowest test grade AND our second exam is take-home. I did 75% of it with a tutor in the the academic success center. So.....whew, I don't know. This class is definitely hard in the summer time. It does not transfer back to my BSN degree which is great. So even I do not get the grade I want, I can retake it later and it doesn't hurt me. Thanks for all the input and keep me in your prayers!

make sure you will take it at the same institution so it officially replaces the lower grade (if you are not happy with how it may effect your gpa!) and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to PM or ask on this forum... i've gotten quite a bit of organic under my belt and might be of assistance if i remember any of it. good luck!

I have another thought, in the event I do not pass this o-chem class this summer, what other science (graduate level) could I take next year to help stand me out in the application process? I definitely will pursue the CCRN when I am eligible and try to get the highest GRE score I can. Other than that, is there anything else to take or just retake the o-chem? Thanks!
