CRNA/ anesthesia books/ New England shadowing

Hi all,

I'm getting all jazzed up about think about going to school to be a CRNA. I have a hundred questions and just keep reading blogs and looking at schools. I'm still in the casual phase though technically, because I think I am aiming for applying in 2017 and attending in 2018.

My first question is; does anyone have any good book recommendations written about anesthesia (from CRNA or anesthesiologist). I'm not looking for a textbook but more of a reader, something to enjoy that will discuss patients, experiences, themselves, the job and anesthesia. A step up form Chicken Soup up but a step down from a text book.

My next question (that may deserve it's own post, but I'm on a roll).

I am looking to start shadowing and would like to see a few settings before applying. But the catch is that I would like to avoid shadowing in my own setting at this time (privacy in my work setting at this phase of my looking). Because of my desires for discretion at this time, I do not want to use my current work contacts.

Essentially, is there anyone in the New England area who would be willing to start talking to me about shadowing in their setting?

My background is a BSN, two years medsurg, just under a year of MICU at a level 1 TC & teaching hospital.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know how far into NE you are. But if you are interested in traveling to Albany, NY, I could get you in for a shadow day. I completely respect and understand the need for discretion during the application phase! Feel free to PM me.
