Good luck! San Diego is dominated by anesthesiologists and the massive ASMG. CRNAs practice at UCSD, Balboa, the VA, Kaiser, and an assortment of ASCs and other non-hospital settings.

I sought out shadow experiences at all of the above. I was straight up shot down at all the hospitals. HIPAA concerns, liability concerns, you name it. If I were still a BSN student, or if I could show I was enrolled in a degree-seeking program, it would have been much easier. I got one tepid response from a CRNA who works in ASCs and we weren't able to make it happen due to schedule conflicts.

I ended up flying to San Antonio and shadowing at SAMMC for three days. Awesome experience.

If you want to get a taste of anesthesia in this town, I highly recommend just shadowing a friendly anesthesiologist. If you're able and willing to travel, broaden your search and seek out shadow experiences outside of beautiful metro areas with amazing weather on the beach. California is a pretty rural state outside of the three big metro areas...

If you google "nurse anesthesia" you will find another forum where I'm sure you'll find someone in So Cal who has, at least in the past, offered to allow RNs to shadow her...

..

Just be sure, during your interview, be able to answer the question, "Why would you shadow an anesthesiologist when you want to be a CRNA?" You do understand, don't you, why you would need a good answer for this?

i work for one of the hospitals in san diego. i was able to get in the OR without much paperwork. but like i said, i already work for them - i have previously signed HIPPA stuff, did all vaccines etc. You said you work for children's hospital.. ask your education consulting department. they maybe able to help you. that is what i did.

I am also trying to find a CRNA to shadow. I have 4 years of ER experience and 6 months ICU experience but my facility does not employ CRNA's. Any help getting a shadow day would be greatly appreciated!
