Any current SRNA working while in school? Or did you work during your first/second semester? Pls share your experience.

I am currently not working, but a few of my classmates are still doing the per diem gig. It depends on the per diem contract. Some require a certain number of shifts per month. Some hospitals even allow you to come in for 4 hour "princess shifts."

I decided to focus on school and resigned from my position immediately because I expected an extreme work load. Although it is demanding, you could squeeze a shift in once a week with the setup at my CRNA school.

I will be going the per diem route as well to keep loans to a minimal. It is sooooo hard to save when you have kids and you just want to live normally. My colleague in crna school ( 1st year) still pulls 40hrs in 2weeks to maintain benefits.

I hope crna school is all worth it at the end.. Sometimes I ask myself; do I really want to do this, given my decent income at the moment. But then, I will never know if I dont try..

My school wouldn't allow it, but for this first semester I would have had the time. I have heard from students ahead of me in the program that from 2nd semester on it would be impossible.

Since I took a few of the core classes, I plan to work full time for the first semester and then go per diem for the second semester. I'm looking into an Assistantship/TA for the second year, but the third year I plan to not work at all to focus on my studies.

I'm in my first semester, in school full time and working nights full time. It's doable. I'm getting As in my classes and I still go out with friends a night a week. I'll be done working right before Christmas so I can enjoy the holidays before things get nuts second semester.

How do you stay awake during class in the morning? Was looking into a weekend gig.

I'm a weekender at work. Work 2 out of 3 weekend nights (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday), and then one night during the week.
