Program dilemma...

I got accepted into an FNP program for Spring 2016!!!! :D :D :D I am so stoked for this opportunity, however...this program wasn't my first choice. I have not accepted or declined the offer with this program because I'm kind of waiting to hear from my first choice program. They have all of my stuff, I'm just waiting for them to review my information. I'm hoping they will review it soon since they review the applications as they are submitted.

If I decide to accept the offer with this program, I would start in January. Right now it's pretty hectic with me starting a brand new job, but my manager and director are fully aware that I wanted to go back to school and it could be as early as January. If I get into my first choice program, I wouldn't start until Fall 2016.

Has anybody heard of programs pushing your application back to the next admission cohort? So instead of me starting in the spring, I would start in the summer.

Has anybody ever accepted an offer from a program but then they heard from their first choice program? Did you resign your spot with the program you accepted an offer from?

Is there a nice way to contact the program I am waiting to hear from to request a status on my application and tell them that I have an offer I am entertaining (and I'm eagerly awaiting their decision)?

I accepted at a few schools, one at a time, as I got accepted to schools that were a better fit, I declined the other. So I only held one spot at a time so that they could accept the next student on the list. What I found was that there is no clear decision time line so even though they were all starting fall semester, at some schools I had to accept before other schools had their application deadline. I did contact my 2nd choice school to ask when they would be making decisions. I did not say that I had other offers. I ended up getting into my first choice and declined my 2nd choice after all.

I contacted my first choice school and they said I probably won't hear sometime before or on February 1st since they do not start until Fall 2016. I submitted my application back in October, though, and since I was told they review the applications as they come in I figured I would have heard something by now. The program I applied to starts on January 11th.

take it hold your spot while you wait for decision from 1st choice. :) selfish but as soon as you know you let your 2nd choice school know

I did end up delaying my admission waiting on other schools. I did lose a deposit, but it was well worth it. The 3 programs in this scenario for me were brick and mortal, major univerisities. I went with a brick and mortal (Big 10 university) where I go to campus at least once a week. I drive 50 miles to get there.

I went ahead and held my spot! I wonder if I can take a couple of courses through this program and then transfer to my top choice program with those credits if I don't hear from them until after this program starts...if I get in, that is! Either way, I'm excited! :)
